The purpose of our lovely tour was to provide security for withdrawing UN forces. We were put into a circle pattern called Ground Hog Station just off the Mogadishu airport. We had platoons rotate for the on-call status to prevent another "Black Hawk Down" incident from occuring again. Luckily the phone never rang. However as in the tradition of the movie (Ground Hog's Day) the song I Got You Babe played every morning that we circled off the coast. We were there for 90 days without touching land. That's right sailors, we got two consecutive beer days! For the rest of you, don't ask.
