First things first – the beach! We took a lovely walk along the sand as the rather chilly waves crashed over our feet.  It was beautiful.  The sun not long been up, so not too hot and the sand cool enough to walk on.

We discovered a guy who would rent boards and wet suits, so after a swift breakfast to set them up – Mark and Jess headed for the surf!  Ticking all kinds of new life experience boxes along the way: First surfing experience (for Mark), first time in the Pacific, first time with a school of dolphins swimming past them!!!  I had some very happy chappy's coming out of the sea at the end of that!  (and one exhausted one, eh Vaughan!)

So after a quick shower at the hotel, we jumped in the car, for the short drive to our hotel in downtown LA.  Our room wasn’t ready so we were able to sit by the pool for a bit.  Unfortunately for the sun worshipers, the sun wasn’t playing ball, and despite them moving several times, the sun just did want to stay and it moved behind the hotel – sad times!

Once we checked in I headed off to visit my friend who lives just off Melrose in Hollywood.  In fact he and his family live less than a mile from the Paramount Studios.  I of course was completely fine about this and was able to drive past the front of the studios without crashing the car from excitement!  Yay me!  I am in my Mecca here!  So after a lovely few hours with Stu and his family talking all things film (Here I shall shamelessly name drop – if you haven’t seen them already, go rent Moon NOW! And catch Source Code at the cinema whilst you can!  They are both outstanding films, and they are just the start of his career!) I headed back to the hotel to find Jess drinking a bottle of wine in the beautiful LA surroundings of our hotel and Mark stressing that he’d lost his camera cable and the blog is now dead to him! (We shouldn’t laugh, but we couldn’t help it! Hee hee)

We decided to have dinner where we were when our waitress came dashing out to tell us that they had just announced the American’s had found and killed Osama Bin Laden and that the president was about to make a speech!  We popped inside to hear Barack Obama tell his country that they had indeed ended a 10 year war on terror!  It was quite dramatic with lots of clapping involved from those watching with us!

Tomorrow, we head to Universal studios to get Mark his rollercoaster fix.
