Today we were up early as it was going to be a long driving day. First stop was breakfast in the lobby and then across the road to the coffee shop. Great coffee. It is the shop with a kayak on the front if you are ever there. We started off down the road and Heidi asked if we would like to have a close up look at Exit Glacier. We of course said a resounding "Yes". Heidi had actually lived at the glacier ranger station during the last winter. On arrival we got out and and went for a walk to the base of the glacier. It was spectacular and a little part of us wished we had hiked up the side of the glacier to Harding Icefield the day before instead of going on the cruise. Next time!

We got some great photos and headed back to the van and hit the highway. For lunch we stopped off at Lucile Lake and then went to the Iditarod Headquarters at Wasilla. It was really interesting to see the dogs and the history. The short film they show was definitely worth watching. They also have dog sledding there if you want to see what it is like.

After an hour we were on the road again and arrived at Otto Lake Campground near Denali National Park. The rest of the day consisted of setting up camp and settling in. You can have showers here for $5 with a towel or $4 if you have your own towel. It was also nice to have running water to brush your teeth as we didn't have that in Kenai Peninsula although it didn't worry us that much.

The camp site was beautiful. The next day we were off to Denali National Park.

Happy Birthday Dad!
