Where I stayed
We winded our way to Ocala and pulled into the Golden Palms. It looked fine from the outside but it was a BIG disappointment especially as it cost as much as the Hawthorn in Orlando. The rooms were very tired, the doors all needed a paint and just not well maintained. The first room wasn't made up, the second had a running toilet cylinder and the third had a CRICKET in the bed. Imagine how I felt when I found that. Adrian and I felt like itching the whole night as I guess psychologically we figured there would be bed bugs too. Luckily there weren't but not the best nights sleep and that start tainted Ocala. We did find out however that it is the home of John Travolta.
On the 24th July we drove into Ocala National Forest and did a couple of trails hoping to see the native bear but unfortunately (maybe fortunately) they were hiding. We did find loads of spiders which loved building webs across the track. Adrian went first! There were also loads of forest frogs on the tracks which I loved. Very cute!
Ocala National Forest is beautiful and would be a great place to camp and fish although we were glad to be on the move the next day.
