Where I stayed
We also visited several other highlights in the old historic city including the Government Palace, the Municipal palace and the Stone Bridge which joins the two banks of the Rimac River behind the Gov. palace. It's a very beautiful city and there is a lot of effort going into revitalizing the historic downtown.
Right now the buildings all look great but many of them are unoccupied
After our downtown tour, we visited San Isidro and the coastline. This area is very park-like with many old trees and huge homes. On the coast we stopped at the "El Parque del Amor" or Love Park. The park is located on the cliffs of Chorrillos overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Miraflores. It's surrounded by walls of romantic quotes scripted in mosaic tiles and a large statue by Victor Delfín, Peruvian fine artist, of two lovers embracing each other in the center of the park. With the ocean in the background, the palms and the artwork it was a stunning place to see.
At the end of the tour, our tour company (Peru Best Tours), gave us a gift (a book on Peru) and dropped us at the Kennedy park where we had lunch at Cafe del la Paz. PBT would pick us up later that night for our transfer to the airport at 7pm
After lunch we got a call from Javier. Javier and Lizzy wanted to meet us for a drink before we left Lima. This was the couple that we met in Chivay a week or so earlier while suffering from altitude sickness. We had dinner with them then and exchanged email and contact info. We decided to meet at 4pm and they took us to the beach to a wonderful place called La Rosa Nautica which is on a pier extending out into the ocean. From the restaurant you have a perfect view of the coastline and beaches of Lima.
We had some Pisco Sour's with Javier and Lizzy and they treated us like kings. It was a perfect ending to our trip to Peru. As we snacked on delicious seafood and enjoyed great conversation and company we listed to the waves crash and saw the sunset. It was very hard to leave... Both Sylvia and I had a fantastic time in Peru but Lima is a place that will always be special not only because of its beauty but because of the wonderful friends we made there (Javier and Lizzy).
