. THey were all very cool, nice kids too and I did end up having alot of fun. When we first got there, we somehow got hooked into a game of beer pong. I got kind of grossed out by the nasty Coors Light and warm Bud Light though. Got a little buzz on, but kinda stopped drinking after that. I've never been a big drinker when I camp... not sure why. Everyone got a little rowdy, and we did get "talked to" by the ranger at some point. I ended up going to bed at about 2:30am... all in all not a bad night.
Woke up early cause it was SUPER hot in the tent. Fell back asleep in one of the camp chairs. Then the kids in charge woke up and cooked a pretty impressive breakfast of bacon and veggie scramble. I was seriously impressed by how much these kids have their shit together, and how much they party as well. They've got the balance down pretty well. After breakfast, a couple people started up an early morning game of beer pong. Yea not my thing but whatever. One game later and we're off to the lake to jetski and go swimming! It was frickin hot out! About 90 degrees, not a cloud in the sky and HOT. At least it wasn't humid though.
The lake was beautiful. It wasn't really a round lake, it sprawled in and out of all these hills. It actually looked like they just flooded a big valley. There were even dead trees sticking out of the water near the shore, like a wetland or bog or something. Most of the foliage on the hills was dry yellow long grass, but spotted among it was a ton of vinyards that were amazingly bright green. I wish I had brought my underwater camera so I could have gotten pictures on the jetski but I forgot.
So yea, I went on my first jetski ride today
! I went with Maia and Maia's friend Matt. I was sandwiched in the middle, which was good cause I felt a LITTLE safer. I was SO scared at first. GOing over the bumps and flying off on turns and we were going "slow" at 35mph. I did alot of screaming and praying I wouldn't die, or fly off and break my arm the day before I fly to Thailand. Yea, sometimes I can be a bit of a wimp. After a while of Matt driving and scaring the crap out of me, I got to give it a go. Yea not so easy. We were all out of balance and I had trouble turning and controlling the jetski. But I did make it to 15mph! haha. Then Maia drove, and Matt sat in the back and the weight distribution was MUCH better. Maia also did a really good job driving and I got over the fear a little bit and it was wicked fun! Even going over the bumps wasn't as scary cause Matt kinda held down the back a little bit better. Slowly but surely I'm getting the hang of these water sports :-)
The rest of the day was spent just sunning and relaxing on the shore. Now I'm just getting ready to fly to Thailand tomorrow!! Crazy! I am very excited to fly through Tokyo!
And let's hope my good flying karma continues. As of right now I have an aisle seat... ack! Hopefully I get to change it to a window seat.
Woohoo! Asia here I come!!
So somehow our plans changed from going to a cabin in Tahoe for the night, to going to Santa Cruz for the day and hanging out on the beach, to going up to Sonoma Lake and camping with some of Maia's friends. I was a little hesitant and first because I had a few last minute errands I had to take care of before leaving the country, and I also wasn't too psyched about going up to some random campsite just to get wasted... but I went along with it. We got up there kinda late, and it was dark, so I didn't really get to see any of the surroundings. But I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised by the camp these kids had set up. They are some SERIOUS campers. They had about 5 huge tents set up, a bug screen tent around the beer pong table ... yes, there was beer pong... many chairs, blow-up camping couches, tons of food, BBQ, stove, just about everything you would need for a kick-ass camping trip. And I thought I was a camping professional. THey also brought up a jetski to rock on the lake
