In Kunming, Yunnan, China, go to the Vietnamese consulate--they're open M-F and take lunch breaks--the consulate is on Beijing Road, a short walk from the south Train Station, on the corner of Yong An Road, in the "Hong Ta Office Building," through a small, unassuming entrance with a very small blue and white sign with "#155 Bejing Road" on it, on the fifth floor.

The "tourist" visa costs 385 rmb (yuan) ($38) and is good for 30-days only. If you want to check the 90-day box, then you have to check either the "business" or "research" box and pay 600 rmb ($100). I checked off the tourist box and the 90-day box, which was improper, so he said I should check off the "research" box even though he knew I was a run-of-the-mill tourist. I applied on Monday morning and the visa was ready on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. They close every day at six.
