We drove into the French side and hit Lausanne. Home of the Olympics, so we hit the museum here for a bit of sightseeing. They had some interesting artifacts and all the paraphernalia about the coming Olympics in my home town of Sydney. Before I left home, my Mum gave me a t-shirt which was an official one. It was quite nice, but what they were showing in the museum was quite garish. Thank god I was not there to see this crap. The lake was nice though. One of the main reasons for coming here was to be able to sing. We all came down to Montreaux, on the Lake Geneva shoreline. But before we arrived, we visited Chillon castle. Lovely place complete with the poet Byron's initials. Supposedly, they used the columns in the dungeon to manacle the prisoners to. Then we entered Montreaux. Parking was hard to find and we never found the Grand Hotel, so Lucy was disappointed, so there was no point staying any longer. Zermatt loomed in the Matterhorn, so the Chookmobile proved its worth by getting to the top. We once again parked, jumped on the train without a ticket and arrived at the top. We were on top of Switzerland. Snow was everywhere so Lucy was excited. We were nearing our complete circumnavigation of Switzerland, when we tried to cross a mountain and the roads were blocked, so we chucked a u-turn and drove back. However, there was a sign pointing to France and Chamonix, and as the Chookster was so adept at climbing, another pass loomed. It was nice little place, so we bought Indian take-away. It was ok. We drove back to Switzerland that evening. Going down, it was really foggy, and the drivers were mad. Such is life. We needed to leave so we went inland via Chateau d'Oex. Just a drive through, but as we had been there a year before, it was funny to see it with no world championship going on. It looked like everyone had packed up and gone home !!!!! By this stage, I was getting that Australian feeling so I decided I wanted one of those Swiss Army knives with the flag on it. We looked everywhere and there was only one other place that might have one, and that was at Zurich airport. We looked, they had none. I missed out. We both did enjoy Switzerland. Free camped all the way through as the facilities on the side of the road were excellent. Complete with hot water. You have to love those Swiss !!!!!
