Onwards we drove, ever closer to Turkey, but still in Syria for at least one more night. We went to see the Hama water wheels. These were built for the simple task of raising water. Quite simple actually, and these wheels were built in the year 1000, so the caption led us to believe. One other thing that I note is how it can mesmerise you staring at a wheel that goes round and round. You can sit there for hours, and I would have if the rest of the crew had not physically grabbed me and dragged me onto the truck !!!!!. So we drove on, and on and on, well not that many ons but still a few and whilst it was still daylight, we could see it in the distance, Crac De Chevalier. An old castle that was built by the crusaders and saw many battles. We arrived, some people stayed in the hotel next door, but being slightly tighter than a lot of the crew as we still had another five months of travel, we once again put the tent up. And then we were off, up to the castle. Now from the outside, it is impressive, but from the inside, you cannot help but notice the smell of urine everywhere. The thought did flash through my mind of adding to it, but I could not bring myself around to it. After a short while, my nose could not take it any longer, so we made our way to the roof to look at the spectacular views all round. That evening, we ate locally and drank the rest of the El Shark, this was our last night in Syria, we had a day of driving and then we would be on the final leg of our journey in the truck. Turkey
