For one whole day, we had been riding uphill, only a slight incline, but noticeable. We climbed one huge hill and we were next to a huge lake. We rode a little way along until we came to a campground. We pitched the tent and then rode to the supermarket, pulled twenty Austrian Schillings from the ATM and went shopping. Normally, twenty of anything is a good figure to play with, but I bought a three pack of Mars bars and a Cornetto!!!!! When we woke up in the morning, the tent was covered in frost. We dried the tent, packed up and off we rode towards Innsbruck. After riding uphill all yesterday, the beauty was that now we had a huge downhill that was over ten kilometres in length and it was windy and all things you love when you are going downhill!!!!! Words cannot explain the feelings of euphoria as I rushed down the hill. When I arrived at the bottom, oh for a chairlift to take me to the top so I could do it all again !!!!!

My earliest memories of the Olympics are in Innsbruck and watching the ski jump, so after a tour of the city, we rode to the ski jump. We climbed the steps and looked out from where they lifted off, and then we proceeded to walk down the grass slope and to the end. No wonder they manage to loop like they are jumping so high. We saw the Olympic flame holder and then rode over to the ice arena. As Lucy and I met on an ice rink and both her and her mother were competitive figure skaters, this was what she came to see. Dinner that night was in an Indian restaurant, where the service was a little harsh, but upon the mention of the words cricket and Australia, the service improved, the waiter loved the Waugh boys and Alan Border was one of his all time favourites. The next morning, looking on the map, it only seemed a couple of centimetres away, so off we rode to go see the bobsled run. Then we went up, and we had no water, and we kept on riding up for two and a half hours, until we reached the top. By this stage, Lucy was screaming, well gasping at me, so we rode a bit more and rode onto the track. Here we were, riding the track on bikes, only problem being was that we were going backwards!!!!! Once up at the top, some local boys turned up and told us that they ride the track everyday. What could we do. It was great fun, but more fun was yet to come. We had to go down. Now what took two and half hours to go up, ten minutes later, we were at the bottom!!!!! Alas, it was time to move on so the next morning, we rode to the station and caught a train.
