Just before I left, I spoke to the Portuguese cyclist about where he was going to go today, and he said, Lugo. I told him he was loco but we looked at the profile, and it was possible, but there were two massive hills, but once you cleared Cadavo, it was pretty much down hill.
Within 5 minutes, I was off the bike pushing, and as the slope leveled off to a flat, I had troubles telling myself, you can ride. It was a real mind fuck, my legs and brain were just not playing ball today !!!
The track became flat, so I pushed on until I came to El Acebo, which I rode on the road because this was the way. It then pushed me onto a track, and it went up and up into the clouds. It was tough, but once at the top, I rounded a corner and left Asturias and entered into Galicia. I took a quick photo, went down a hill and had brunch in O Acebo. From here, it was a very fast 15Ks into Fonsegrada, which was very nice and did not take all that long.
I pushed the bike up another hill into Fonsegrada and had my usual problems about riding, but once I did, it was smooth sailing through Padron and into a forest, and for the next couple of hours, I was riding/pushing, and it was loads of fun, but I knew, I had one last big hill to push up !!!
After a load of villages, I went down, which worried me because there was still one big climb to go, and at the bottom of the hill, the track went up. Now so far, I've walked quite a few tracks but this one was different. The track had been washed out and as I pushed, the walking part got skinnier and skinnier, so I tried to keep the bike on that section, and I went into a hole that was over a metre deep. The hole eventually stopped and I tried climbing out of the hole, but the bike fell in with me which was a bastard as I now had to lift a 12 kilo bike with a 6 kilo pack !!! I struggled for ten minutes, there was nobody there to help me, but eventually, I got it out of the hole and I climbed to the top. I jumped on the bike and rolled down to A Lastra, where I sat and had a late lunch because after yesterday, I knew I needed food or I would have died.
It was whilst eating, I decided to go onto Lugo.
Cadavo was a short ride away, and on the other side, there was a hill, a steep hill which I pushed up !!! However, once up the top, down I went for 30Ks into Lugo. I flew along and it took just over an hour to get there. It was a good idea to push on !!!
I checked in at the albergue, and for the first time on this trip, I had to leave the bike outside. I wasn't overly happy with this because even though the bike is 18 years old, the bike is not a shitter but built using only the best/topline parts.
Once locked up, I had a quick walk around the city, renewing aquaintances was fun, but this was a big city, and after spending fuck all over the last couple of days, Lugo is expensive, but I bit the bullet and spent up.
So I now have around 102Ks left, which I'm going to split into two days as I've done all the hard work and now can have some relaxation time
