After our little Croatian mission, we headed into the hills and made our way to Slovenia. Interestingly, there are actual borders to cross. It kind of reminded me when we drove around in 1998. Lucy gave me the passports and as we left Croatia, the guard was more interested in texting than us, so we entered the EU and drove on.
Now the plan was, go visit a castle in Predjama, drive up to Ljubljana, hang out, drive back to Italy, but life is better when plans change !!! And just like before, we were driving blind, our GPS for this part of Euroville is shit
Predjama
Honestly, as soon as I saw a picture of this castle, I had to see it. Imagine a cliff face and a castle stuck on the front, well that is this place, so once we were there, it was even more impressive than the pictures. We bought our tickets and hit the place. Inside, the rooms were pretty crappy but the bonus part was that it was not only built onto a cliff, but there were caves you could go back into, so we ran around a bit and once we had seen it all, we moved on.
Ljubljana
Getting into the city and finding our room was hard, but once there, it was a letdown after the apartment we had, so we dumped the bags and walked into the city. We had a walk around, and it didn't take long to see all the good stuff as the old city is quite small, so we walked up to the castle for a better view. The castle was a little disappointing so once completed we walked down. We stopped for a coffee and had a talk about the place and I looked at Lucy and said, this city does not inspire me, I want to leave tomorrow morning. She was in complete agreement, so we found a local restaurant, ordered a stag steak, ate it, and then went back outside.
Once there, we realised things had changed. There was now a stage and a guy walked out, the press followed, he gave a speech, and free beer started to flow. Now being a guest of the city, we had to join in, so one turned into two, two into four, four into......... There was free cake as well, but I wanted my stomach to be full of beer, and whilst drinking one, I looked at Lucy and said, have I ever told you how much I love this place, but trust me, I am never coming back !!! So we grabbed a roadie and headed back to the room.
Lake Bled
An hour away in the hills sits the spa town of Bled. There is a lake there with a church on an island in the middle, but we were not here to see that, we had come for another castle, which sat high on a cliff overlooking the lake. Now this was pretty impressive and there were also numerous archaeological finds. We ran around seeing it all, and once done, we jumped back in the car as we had a long drive across the country
Piran
Back on the coast of the Med, well the little part that is Slovenian, there is a little Venetian village called Piran. it did sound awesome and upon arrival, it did not disappoint. It so reminded me of other towns on the Med. Little laneways zig-zagging around, and small enough not to get lost. It didn't take long to see, even walking slowly, so we checked it all out before we made our way back to the car and back into Italy.
And Finally
Ljubljana, what a strange place, but then again, maybe this is why alcohol was invented !!!

What a disappointment - that poor naive Polish girl expecting to see a big penis and you show her a statue of a cockerell - you old tease.
