Onto CebuPacific we went, first from Cebu to Manila, and after a short stop, we jumped on another plane and headed towards Hong Kong. Now I think the airline is ok, but they put an impromptu bout of karaoke as they only had three songs to play onboard and even the staff got sick of hearing halo, halo, halo !!!

Saturday - GPS Link

Landed, through customs, jumped on a bus and headed towards Kowloon, and even though I knew there would be high rises everywhere, I wasn't expecting to see the amount that there were, and even more so was the neons. I had never seen so much either. It was everywhere advertising in both English and Kanton.

As we got closer, well about a K from where we were meant to get off, we were kicked out as we were told that all roads were closed as there was some dignitaries arriving and they were putting on a firework display. I know that we are popular, but I didn't expect this sort of treatment !!! Getting to the hotel was a little hard as the roads were closed, but once there, Lucy was shocked at what I had booked. I had gone flashpacker style and we were in a 4 star !!!

Bags down, we watched the fireworks display and then found some food in a Macau style restaurant. Not long after, as it was late, we died for the night.

Sunday - GPS Link

We jumped on a tube and went over to Hong Kong island. The weather was glorious so we had a walk around. Realistically, we could have still been in the Philippines because all around were Filipinos. We asked a couple what the story was and they said that every Sunday was Filipino day !!! Back on the trail, we Had a look at a few buildings before we found a huge aviary. It was nice to see some birds of Asia flying. Next up was the St John's Cathedral. It was English style, plain, simple but did the job !!!  Back on the road, we jumped on a skinny tram and made our way down to dried up markets area. Now it's not my thing, but seeing dried up sea horses after diving with them is quite sad, but I could handle the dried up bats !!!

After a couple of temples, we jumped back on the metro, we went to the otherside. Lucy wanted to go to the bird market as the book states that locals feed grasshoppers to birds. We did see loads of grasshoppers of different sizes, but no feeding, so we walked through more markets of different styles. The fish one was sad as there were loads of fish that we had dived with but there were also some unusual ones. Through the normal clothes and shit, and then we arrived at vibrator market !!! The locals were snapping them up big time, so we sat back and laughed !!! The food market loomed, so we sat with the locals and gorged ourselves stupid.

Monday - GPS Link

As the weather was shit, we were not motivated but we struggled to get our shit together, jumped on the metro and headed back to Tung Chung. Once out, as it was pissing down, we made the executive decision to buy a couple of umbrellas.  We followed the crowd, bought some tickets for the gondola, and jumped in one for a five K ride. Up at the top, the weather hadn't changed, but the price of an umbrella had !!!  So we opened ours, and walked up to the large seated Buddha. It was impressive, but the rain was a downer, so we moved over to the monastery and watched the locals burn incense. It was fun, but the rain was shitting us, so we made our way down, back to Kowloon for food and sleep

Tuesday

Off to Macau we went, but that is another story in itself

Wednesday - GPS Link

On Wednesday in Hong Kong, it is officially Jew day !!! Well the museums are free and there was one we did want to see, and as it was out in Sha Tin we caught the metro out to the area, and went looking for the 10000 Buddhist monastery. We had to climb a huge hill and on both sides there were monk statues. It reminded me of ones in Burma we had seen previously. Up the top were some temples with Buddhas in and a small pagoda. It was nice to see after all the Taoist stuff we had seen. Back down, we stopped off for some Yum Cha for lunch. Lucy said it was ok but thought that there was to much slimey shit !!! Around the corner was the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. It had all the history, showing how Hong Kong had developed, especially over the last fifty years. Amazingly where we stood was nothing until the sixties. You have got to love development !!! We had one more look at another Taoist temple before we went back

That evening, we made our way over Happy Valley as Lucy has a friend who had moved over. Janice had lived over here for a few years, and she had decided to show us the races. Once there, it did look interesting, but to me, it just seemed like a bunch of pissed up Westerners, however I did enjoy myself, so I joined in with the beer drinking !!!

Thursday - GPS Link

It was our last full day in Honkers, and thankfully the weather had changed and the sun had come out to play, so we hit the road early, jumped on a Star ferry and headed over to Hong Kong Island where and over to the Peak tram. As we were there for opening, we went straight to the top. The views were quite amazing, except for the haze from the pollution. We took the photos and the came down and went shopping. I had had my eye on a brand new lappy, and the prices were amazing, so cheap. I checked on the web and they were 700ish cheaper than the UK, so I went to a few different shops, played them against each other, got the best deal, and we had a new laptop. If I had needed a new camera, this is the place to go, it was unbelievable the prices. Once bought, we grabbed Jacinta and had our last street meal.

Friday and Finally - GPS Link

We caught an early morning bus out to the airport, and with that we were gone, which was sad, because even though this is a small place, I want to come back, in fact, I could quite easily see myself living, working, doing the thing here in Honkers. It might have taken me a while to get here, but it was worth it.
