I was on the otherside of the piazza when I noticed her there, and even though it had been two minutes since we last saw each other, to both of us, it felt like 5 years, 3 months, 22 hours, 38 minutes and 29 seconds. There was only one thing to do, so we ran to each other, falling into open arms, then came the kiss, longing, loving, tenderly on the lips, and afterwards, Lucinate, rested her head in the nape of my neck, and she felt like she was home.

Then came the email

It has come to our attention here at Mills and Boon that you are attempting to write dribble about love and princesses. As there are already plenty of other boring people out there who are doing this, we implore you to stop and get back to what you do best. Write bullshit.

So I did

And Now The Story

Many years ago, when I had less wrinkles, more hair and none of it was grey, I left Australia. Over the years I have spoken to my friends, and I have never asked them to come over here, but there was one, I said it would be good for. Eventually he did, he had a trip around Europe and then ended up in London. A year later, we met in Spain, and then as he was born to Austro/German parents, he grabbed a passport and made it a regular occurrence. Every year, he went to Italy to ski, but this year was different, before skiing he was going to Italian school in Florence, and as we hadn't been since 98, we decided to meet up.

We had our usual trip, and once there, our chosen car was a Peugeot 206. As soon as I was given the keys, I knew it was going to be a shitter, and out on the road, it didn't disappoint. Once we were in Florence, we had a nightmare driving around the oneway streets before I lost it, parked and walked to the hotel. Zonth was waiting outside, so we dumped the bags and hit the streets.

I have many memories, and as soon as we saw the Duomo, they came flooding back. We climbed up and had a look at the frescoes, and as usual they were all gorey with the devil eating many people. We went further up and had a look out over the city. Nothing had changed really, especially in the amount of churches. There were still shitloads. We saw most of the things we had visited previously. Back down, we went inside. It's pretty sparse, but still nice. We wandered the streets, just hanging out, listening to life back in Sydney. I don't miss it, but it was good to catch up. We walked past the Accademia but didn't go in as all three of us had seen David before, so we crossed the river and went up. There is a fake David and a different view of Florence, so we snapped away. By the time we were down, it as dark, so we crossed back over using Ponte Vecchio. Around the corner was Santa Croce with a dodgy christmas market. It was pretty crappy, but on the carousel were some of Zonth's friends, so we joined them in drinking Gluhwein. After a few, we found a trattoria and had dinner. Prosecco, red wine, food, it was great. This is living !!! Once we had finished, we hit another bar for more wine. It flowed down so well, but sadly, all good things must end, we were dieing and we needed to crash, so we hit the streets and went back to our hostel.

And Finally

It had been fun coming back, just wandering round, catching up with one of my mates from long ago. Maybe we didn't spend enough time in Florence, but we weren't really here to sightsee, but to catch up, and fuck it was good. Real good.
