Hello again, and Happy New Year everyone!

We have been living it up in Western Australia for roughly a month now, and still having a simply amazing time here. We find ourselves sitting on beautiful beaches enjoying the hot weather and the cold beer almost daily!...so no complaints there.

The Driving on the other side of the road is fine...although I havn't been doing any of it. Not that I find it hard, but evidentley I am a bit of a Curb-hugger over here and the last time I drove the car I bumped into a curb and we got a flat tire!!  Needless to say, Carey does the driving now....just as a precaution. Although getting the flat tire sucked, it was sort of a blessing in disguise because when we took the tire to get fixed we had to wait a bit...and noticed a paint and painting art supply store right next door!  So we picked up some canvasses, paints, and brushes and have been painting on the back deck ever since...which is AWESOME!! love it.  I have already painted 4-5 small pictures. Since we have gotten here Ive become really interested in the Australian aborigional dot style of painting. It is quite interesting and so I have been trying it out for myself.

We also got the chance to go to the Peel Zoo a short while ago, and it was a really neat experience.  There are so many different kinds of birds here, its pretty amazing. After being greeted "Hello" by one of the parrots, a male peacock walked right in front of me! It was really large and thankfully didn't seem to care that we were so close. Next we went to see the kangaroos. The sign on the gate of the cage said that we could go in and pet them, only we had a really hard time working up the nerve to go in because the Roos were in the same pen as the GIANT emu's.  And you are prolly chuckling to urself right now....but they are extremely unfriendly and intimidating to look at. Everytime we worked up the courage to enter the pen....one would stand up and start walking over all evil with that "I am gonna peck your face" look in its eyes...If you've seen one....then you know.
Finally the emus decided to migrate to the far corner together and we made a break for the roos.  The mom and dad were chillin and layin down, and the baby was so ADORABLE. we both knelt down right beside and got inches away from the lil guy.  It was absolutly amazing. The 1 koala bear that we could see was sleeping in the tree, but there was a walk thru aviary filled with tropical birds that we went in.  It was really cool, but there was a flock of various birds hovering over the exit door awaiting to poop-shower anyone who dared go underneath...so we thought it better to turn back and exit thru the entrance, which was happily poop-free.
The most disturbing and interesting part of the zoo was in the osterich cage. I was filming on my videocam this female osterich who was walking quite slow and low to the ground...she squatted down and started shaking her feathers and I couldn't figure out what the hell she was doing until.....the male osterich came up from behind.....he started gyrating his wings and stomping each foot up and down all dance-like....and I jokingly asked Carey, "Oh my, do you think they're doing some sort of mating dance?"  Moments later my question was answered by the male mounting the female and well....the rest is on my video camera for anyone who is interested. The whole thing only took about 30 seconds of flittering feathers and grunts before they stood up and went their separate ways.  It was definitly a bit disturbing but also quite hilarious!!  so hilarious in fact, that Carey and I decided to do a reinactment of the embrace...to the soundtrack, "lets get it on" by Marvin Gaye. Which we also have captured on video....it's quite priceless.

Christmas was really amazing, here. As a gift from Barb and Kirk (the homeowners) Carey and I were given tickets to go on the Chrismas lights Canal cruise. There are alot of small communities here that are set up on canals (like venice) and they all deck out the backs of their houses in fancy and intricate light displays!! We got to watch the amazing sunset from the boat (it was so bright pink and orange, it looked as tho the sky was on fire...UNREAL) and once it was dark the lights came out and it was phenomenal. The canals were crowded with hundreds of boats filled with people shouting Merry Christmas!! to everyone and the families of the houses were outside partying and singing carols. It was really quite an amazing experience.
Otherwise, It is a bit difficult to get into the spirit of the season (like were used to) because it was around 40 degrees for Xmas Eve, Xmas day, and boxing day. Needless to say, we spent them at the beach.

During boxing week we went to the local mall and I scored huge, buying new pants, board shorts, and 6 new tshirts.....awwww yea!  thanks to all who gave me monies for xmas and the trip....now you know what i've been buying for myself.
Carey and I have both bought authentic and hand painted didgery doos at the freemantle marketplace since we have been here. They are fun, but super hard to get the hang of. You have to be able to breathe in thru ur nose at the same time as you let air move slowly out thru ur mouth....HARD. but we are working on it. I love it tho, it is a really cool instrument.

After alot of mapquesting and googling for the different pubs and nite clubs in the town we're staying in we finally realized the they are on the same street, which is one that you cannot drive on!  So now, we have finally located them, and checked them out. After going to the first one and it being ABSOLUTLY deserted....we realized that people don't start going out till pretty late here....so we checked out the other main place and they had a live band playing there.  It was really sweet, they were an awesome cover band with a really wide range of songs to play. We had a good time...and certainly will go back to that one.
We've gone out for dinner a few times and we just cant get enuf of the delicious fish n'chips here. This one place, Cicerello's, is on the marina overlooking the water and has THE MOST delicious fish. The first time we were there we kept seeing wild dolphins swim by right close to us....so cool. The next time we were there Carey managed to spray ketchup all over her shirt and bare chest....nice work, Carey....you classy broad, you!
good times.

For New years we decided to go into Perth for the big celebrations....we took the train there and only had to walk about 5 minutes out of the train station before we hit the district of downtown that was closed off to traffic. They had 3 outdoor stages and a Giant disco ball (the biggest one in the southern hemisphere) and the streets were filling up with people. We started the nite of at a pub called the Brass Monkey. (well, to be truthful, I started the night off with a waterbottle filled with GIN!!) then off to the Brass Monkey. We got a spot on the upstairs outdoor patio overlooking one of the two smaller stages and had some drinks there. Later, once the clubs opened (10pm) we headed out to a niteclub called Rise. This one was directly facing the mainstage and in the midst of all the action, so we were very happy to get a good spot on the upstairs outdoor patio there as well. It was pretty insane and the streets were packed with partiers ready to countdown to the New year. It was reminiscent of calgary's red mile....it was so awesome.
We met some really cool people and had a crazy time there......Carey almost got her camara and videocamara stolen from underneath the bathroom stall....like someone ACTUALLY got on the floor and reached into Carey's stall to try and steal her shit!!! thankfully the dumb bitch wasn't very sly...and Carey caught her....nothing was stolen and all was well and good.
It was most definitly quite excititng and obviously a New Years Eve that I will NEVER forget.
Absolutly Phenomenal!

I hope all ur New Years' were fun and amazing and I wish everyone all the best in the new year.

LOVE YOU ALL
