So…..we fell asleep…not good. Our plane was leaving at 8:00AM on July 8th. We woke up at 5:00. Early, but still too late. It takes two hours to walk from the hostel to the airport, and we would still have to wait in line to get our boarding passes. We rushed to pack our things and rushed out of our hostel. After an hour walking, we decided to run. Wow, we were cutting it really close. We were still an hour’s walk away and we were still exhausted from yesterday. A local Icelandic woman came to our rescue and offered us a ride. Like all Icelanders that we met, she spoke English perfectly and explained that she works at the airport. I was able to thank her in Icelandic and gave her my felt headband as a gift. (Ok, it really wasn’t a gift and I was very upset when I realized that I left it in the car—it’s ok though, because after appropriately mourning the last one, I purchased another at the airport with an Icelandic design).
