The 5.30 alarm is killing me but this morning I as already awake. The sprinklers in the night woke me and then I woke up again later on, my chest was soaking wet. I thought water had go into the tent but I couldn't find where. I was worried about my down sleeping bag getting wet. In the morning, everything was dry - nightsweats again.
We cycled to Garden City and today we had tailwinds. Also, as a complete surprise, the clouds cleared and we cycled in sunshine. We had to take our jackets and socks off. Warm for the first time in days.
We stopped for lunch at a picnic spot next to a golf course. I thought this was supposed to be "a good walk spoiled by a white ball!. Except in America there isn't much walking involved. They drove their golf buggy right up to the ball to take their next shot. Al suggested the golf course probably insists that golf buggies are used, to speed up the players.
but saw a turning off the main road to Garden City. We decided to take it, as it would be a quiet road into the town.
We carried on along the highway to Garden City and saw a turning to take that would get us there on a quieter road, so we took it.
We stopped at a picnic spot and there was a memorial. Reading the inscription, this was to remember the Clutter family who had been murdered in a bad burglary. This was teh famly we had read about in Truman Capote's book In Cold Blood. We had read it while in India and it made an impression on both of us. What a coincidence that a small, unplanned detour would take us right to the memorial.
