I had a restless night - partly because I was lying on sofa cushions on the floor sharing a duvet with Duncan, partly due to Matt's incessant snoring (I guess he got a good night's sleep!!) and partly due to trying to work out how to do things the next day if we couldn't get into the villa till mid afternoon check in time and what to do if the children woke early to avoid thm waking the othr people in the villa.

No surprise that Scott was first one awake at about 5am (but I am impressed that he managed to sleep till then) - and in the end I woke everyone else soon after 6am as I couldnt keep Scott quiet any longer. Luckily we had a change of clothes in the hand luggage so we had a quick change and crept out (leaving a note for the people in the villa who had let us stay who would be gone when we got back) and set off for "Perkins" as per my research.

It was a beautiful morning with the sun just rising as we drove to the restaurant and we knew as soon as we got there it was the right place to be as all the local sherrifs were in there having their breakfast! We felt like we were truly in America!!

Matt and I both ordered omelettes - with came with hash browns and a side plate of 3 pancakes! Yum! The children LOVED the restaurant - Duncan said "can we come here again"
before we had even ordered and Scott said "Why did we never come to
America before???".

They ordered a selection of different kids pancake
options Gareth with sprinkles and bacon, Duncan with chocolate chips and
Lara and Scott had plain pancakes. All this and endless coffee (for the adults) and free refills for the children of their orange juice and chocolate milk (which was actually a mistake as we thought we were ordering normal milk - but the boys were over the moon with the mistake!!) They were impressed with the service in the resturant too - the waitress gave us 4 cookies "for the children" before we left

Matt then rang the management people to explain our mistake and they said we could go back to the villa at midday.

It was about 8.15 by now so we set off for the Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge hotel for a bit of a look around. It is a magnificent building and the theming is wonderful.

We were a bit disappoined at the animal viewing areas - although we did see vultures, zebra, antelope, cranes and flamingos. (Although the children were equally excited to spot a rabbit!)

They were invited to join in an activity beside the pool to learn how flamingos and pelicans catch and eat their food. They all loved it - and earned a "bead" for completing the activity. It was a chance for Matt and I to sit and enjoy a coffee in the sunshine while they did it and a lovely relaxing way to spend some time. They then had a play on the playground before we set off for the supermaket shop. Scott said "this is like a summer come true"

Unfortunately the trip to get some food shopping that followed,  was a nightmare!! 4 tired children (including Duncan in a buggy), two tired adults, a shop full of products we don't now - and lacking products we take for granted...resulted in some frayed tempers and in the end we threw things in the trolley and left abruptly in a "supermarket sweep" style with what we had already (which didnt include any sandwich fillings - although it did include bread, rolls and salad!)

Stifling our disappointment that Walmart didnt pack our shopping in brown paper bags as per the old movies, we set off home where I was seriously flagging but the children (in between their bickering) reassured us they werent in the least tired and didn't need a sleep!

Lunch was an odd mix of the new cereal we had bought (Fruit Loops and US cheerios getting a thumbs down - frosted flakes aka Frosties getting a thumbs up) the cookies we were given this morning, jammie dodgers brought from home and some toast and jam (with a big sigh of relief when Lara liked both the bread and the jam!!)

A quick swim for the children and a dip in the jacuzzi spa for me and then it was an enforced nap all round for a couple of hours.

We all felt better for it and as I write it is 8.20pm and we are waiting for our Dominos pizza to arrive. I just hope the late night doesnt impact our early start tomorrow! We are hoping to leave at 7am for Magic Kingdom...

Oh Claire, this is liking reading an Evans blog! Trust me, it's stories like the villa booking going wrong you will remember and laugh at for years to come; "remember when....". I feel as if I'm with you every step of the way, especially with memories of our fractious jet lagged kids in years gone by! I bet it was all worth it when you got in that hot tub! Looking forward to reading the rest of it...please make sure to take some photos of that yellow ball thing in the sky; I can't quite remember the name of it, it's been so long!

Oh, and the Pina Colada and Mudslide were not bought in the UK, but in liquor stores out there. Look out for the TGI Friday bottles of Mudslide. Trust me, they help after a long day!
