For several years I'd wanted to go see the Canadian Rockies because of all the beautiful pictures I'd seen. A few years ago my siblings and I sent my parents there for their 30th wedding anniversary and they brought back more good pictures. Originally I was going to take a roadtrip south to Yosemite with a friend, but when she dissed me I figured I'd go to Canada (I'd already been to Yosemite).

I left Portland around 8am and drove north to Seattle. I stopped at Barnes & Noble and picked up some language CDs so I might actually learn something during the long drive. Met up with Josh for lunch then continued north across the border into Canada. There was some pretty scenery along the way, but nowhere to pullover and take pictures. I stopped in Kamloops at DQ and had an ice cream. Continued on my way towards Jasper but it was getting late so I figured I'd better find a campground. Found one in a place called Clearwater, B.C., about 7:30pm. I setup camp then took a quick stroll by the Thompson River. Cooked me up some Cup 'o Noodles and read.

Driving by myself wasn't so bad, but once I got to the campground I began to feel a bit lonely. It's kind of boring sitting around a campsite all by yourself.

Hey Twittg,

Sounds like you had a good trip. I grew up in Oregon so I'm familiar with many of the areas that you traveled on this trip. If you ever get the chance, visit Eastern Washington as there are some great camping spots. If you take Highway 2 east of Seattle, you will go over Stevens Pass which is truly breathtaking. As you coming down over the cascades you will come in the Wenatchee National Forest and the Wenatchee River. Leavenworth is a great little town modeled to look like a Bavarian Village. If you get the chance then definitely visit Lake Chelan. I was there last summer and the water is soooo clear, it's as if you were in Hawaii.

I did a a roadtrip throughout all of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana last summer, and that's when I visited many of these places. I camped often but also was able to use this little discount deal put on by Choice Hotels. Basically I stayed a few nights in hotels and I was able to earn a free night as a result. Anything to keep the trip cheap!!!

Eastern Oregon is just as amazing as well. Check out Bend, Redmond, and Sunriver if you have never been. You will definitely enjoy those places!

I actually spent part of my growing up in Wenatchee, so am quite familiar with the area. We'd go to Lake Chelan a lot in the summer.
