From Portland, Maine, we drove through Vermont and New Hampshire up into Quebec, Canada. We went to Montreal and discovered it really is French speaking, including most the traffic signs being in French. Found ourselves a hostel then went up to Mont-Royal for views of the city. We wandered around the old town area and saw Notre Dame Basilica. Montreal is a very pretty city. We ate at the Peel Pub for dinner because they had a really cheap spaghetti special.
I went out to the Olympic Park the next day by myself 'cuz Josh didn't want to spend the $1 to ride the subway. The Olympic Park was alright...nothing too exciting. There was a cute, young woman leading a bunch of kids that asked me something in French - "blah, blah, blah insectarium" - and pointed. I just nodded my head (she was going the correct direction to reach the insectarium). Met back up with Josh in the city and we went to Old Port and Old Montreal. They had cheap night for baseball so we went and saw the Expos play the Cubs for $5.

Drove to Toronto, found a hostel and wandered around the city. It was rather dead since it was a Sunday. Checked out the CN Tower area. Didn't find it to be a very exciting city. At the hostel, we met some guys who used to live in Seattle. One of them actually knew a friend of my brother's from high school. Small world.

We made a stop at Niagara Falls before returning to the U.S. We got pictures and went in the tunnels behind the falls. Plus had to visit the gift shop. It's hard to get very good pictures with so much mist coming up off the falls though.

I really liked Montreal. It felt much more like a different country than other places I've been in Canada. Must be because of the French influence.
