went on a little day trip to Pompeii and Naples this weekend. Our plan was to go to Pompeii first and then leave earlier and spend some time in Naples. Pompeii is beautiful. All of Italy that Ive seen so far has an almost tropical feeling. There are palm trees every where and everything is beautiful and green. Pompeii was like that but almost more so. its south of Rome and even warmer. Im not sure if you want to hear me rub it in about the weather but holy smokes its awesome. I basically skipped winter. No snow for me! Anyways sorry I went on a little tangent. For a little background information for the kids who rode the short bus, Pompeii is a city in Italy which was covered and preserved in ash when Mt Vesuvius erupted in 79AD. Even though I had no idea what most of the buildings were, the city itself was beautiful. The ruins are magnificent, I think theyre some of the best preserved ruins? you can correct me if Im wrong. But to see these ruins and in the background have Mt Vesuvius, the city must have been so beautiful back in the day. Also, they have 2 human bodies on display that were preserved in the ash. That was actually really creepy to see. But overall Pompeii was a great experience to see how people in 79 AD lived. Oh probably my favorite part was walking outside the ruins and theres an orange and lemonade stand. These lemons were the biggest things i have ever seen in my life. some of them were the size of my head. I never knew lemons were that big!
Moving on to Naples, apparently the train station is in the middle of the ghetto bc naples was teh ugliest and most dangerous city i have been to so far. I was very angry that I left 3 hours to spend there because I spent most of it in the train station eating mcdonalds which by the way is sooo different then in the US. its like gourmet almost. Anyways time for class but I miss everyone so much!!! i hope everything is going well with everyone and i want to hear about everything!
