I really, REALLY love the Alps.  All parts:  German, Italian, Austrian, and Swiss.  Just stunning views and colors.  It rains a lot, so everything is very lush.  The lake region of Northern Italy is great!  Lake Como (George's home!) is beautiful.  The weather is about 25 degrees cooler, which I love.  I want to put braids in my hair and yodel.  I'm not kidding.  I want a house in the Alps.

Switzerland's roads are on the edge of lakes and through tunnels.  LONG tunnels that go through the mountains (the largest one in the world you can drive through is located here...about 11 miles long).  Unfortunately, there was a wreck on our way home and we were stuck on the side of the road for 2 hours.  Not moving.  In pouring rain.  When they finally reopened the tunnel, we made it to Lucerne.  Swiss chocolate is #2 after Belgium.  Switzerland is not part of The European Union, so they don't use the Euro.  They still take Swiss Francs.  Just FYI if you're ever here.  I was so exhausted at this point, George could have been standing naked on a mountain and I wouldn't have cared.  I do, however, have a total appreciation of the European life.  It's way more relaxed.  Everyone camps, rides bikes, sits and drinks cappuccino's.  No one has blue tooths in their ears and they aren't on cell phones all the time.  The food is fresh.  No one is trying to do things faster, bigger, better, cheaper.  It's all about enjoying the moment and life. The 2 hour accident break means I'll be 2 hours late getting home (2 a.m. - UGH!.  I call my cousin to give her the bad news.  All's good.  They'll see me then.

Fast forward to 2:15 a.m. in Germany.  WTF?!  NO ONE is here but German truckers and a cashier that looks like a German women's weight lifter.  I ask her about a pay phone.  She says 'No English' and something about a card.  Did I mention I left my German phrase book at the house?  I decide to wait a little longer.  Nothing!  Seriously!  Am I going to have to turn tricks to get home?  How in the hell do I call a cab here?  EVERYONE has spoken English everywhere I've gone up until this point.  Also, it's raining cats and dogs.  I can't feel my feet.  MOMMY!!  Praise the Lord a cab driver stops for coffee around 2:40 a.m.  I won't have to turn tricks after all!!  YEAH!!  I get home to a dark house and car in front.  I plan on how I will beat her ass while the taxi driver gets my stuff out.  She asks how I got home and if I will need a penicillin shot (funny!).  Anyway, the alarm didn't go off (or she doesn't care about me....not sure which one).  Finally get to bed about 5 a.m.

alarm
To defend myself...my alarm was set to go off but my POS phone only has 3 ring tones working and the one I had it set on was one that DIDN'T work. Besides....it gave you something to add to your journal....your European Adventure. The Griswold's have nothing on that!
