Veni, Vidi, Spendi
Translation: I came, I saw, I spent.

Hi All,

Well this will be our last blog.

Becky and Dianne pilgrimaged to Assisi and Cortona (the site of the movie Under the Tuscan Sun).  After a delicious gourmet lunch in Cortona, we traveled to Assisi and had quick tour of St Claire's Cathedral and St Francis' Basilica.  The Basilica is not one church but two.  The lower Romanesque and the upper Gothic.  St. Francis' coffin in is the crypt - hewn out of rock.  Down there we requested from a friar a mass to be said for you mom, for your good health (John, one for our family too).  The church has beautifully restored fresco's done by Giotto. St. Frances is the Patron Saint of Italy (can you tell my sisters are teachers?) and due to our amazing tour guide we had an amazing day.  We were immersed in Tuscan culture. Karen went exploring Florence one last time.

That evening we all started packing for home.  We hope all of our treasures fit in the suitcases.
Everything is on track for us to travel to Rome tomorrow.  We have a quick tour of Rome on the double-decker bus and then Monday we travel by Air Transat 6:15pm to arrive on Canadian soil about 10:30PM.  We shall see you all soon.

So, in essence we have bonded as sisters and we chose to show you in a poem/song to the tune of   "Oh, my darling Clementine".

Our Lamento

Quanta costa, costa lotta,
In Firenze, Italy.
Get your Euros out and ready,
For you'll pay them constantly

In the market, there was Iqubal,
Selling purses with a smile.
There were purple ones, there were red ones,
And we stood there for a while.

It's a one price, it's a two price,
It's what 'er the markets say.
They just look at your apparel,
and decide what you will pay.

There's gelato on every corner,
And Cappuccino by the cup.
Have pannini or a pastry,
Until our stomachs are filled up.

Michaelangelo, Botticelli,
Donatello and Raphael.
All the artists are abundant,
Enough to make our old brains swell.

All the walking round in circles,
All the standing in one place.
Led to blisters, corns and shin splints,
'Athletico Fungo' there was one case.

Sweat is dripping,  it is sticking,
Where's the air conditioner.
Stinky cigarette smoke is everywhere,
Oh no, here comes a tour!

Zooming buses, noisy scooters,
Even bikes that aim for you.
Crowded sidewalks, bumpy pathways,
And there's lots of doggy poo.

Ancient buildings, filled with fresco's,
Mosaic tiles that gleam so bright,
Gothic domes and Renaissance towers,
Provide a never forgotten sight.

Weary sisters, packing treasures,
And we covered so much ground.
We came, we saw, we conquered,
And it's now we're homeward bound.

Ciao Gli amici e la familia

We love and miss you,
Your wives, mothers, aunts, daughters, friends,
Dianne, Karen, Becky and Laurie

Bill on

Italy and particularly the Tuscan Region will be a long time recovering from your time there. However, it is notable that the Italian economy did have a slight improvement in September.

Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy! You only pass this way once!

France on

Just beautiful!!!
Safe journey home!
