Hi all,
(Sunday)  We have settled in quite nicely and can't believe this will be our home for a month.  Our early birds woke Karen and Becky up with bruschetta and Capuccino (and the waft of pizza). Then we ventured out to explore our surroundings. We got to the market and started shopping and it rained hard but we didn't care because we were in a leather store with Max buying our leather coats.  Karen got us all down to a good price.  Laurie refrained for now...ever.  Max the owner served us all cappiccino. Refreshed we made our way around the corner and were awe struck by the beauty of the duomo which had been just refurbished.  The facade is all marble. We visited the church and went to mass.  Later we enjoyed our first gelatto.  Chocolate...mmmmm.  We made our way back home by eight and had our first home meal in the italian manner of a late dinner, made by Laurie.   That night we did not sleep well, probably due to all the excitement and the smell of leather in the market which we brought home.

The next morning we all got up bright and early to get to the Mercado centrale (Central Market for food) to purchase our weekly groceries. We got fresh parmeasean, olive oil and red wine vinigar, different cheeses, pesto, chicken, tons of fresh delicious fruit, veggies and yummy home made italian bread.  Then we all lugged the heavy bottles and groceries home.  After a nice lunch we went out to tour Santa Maria Novella Church built in the 14th century where we saw ancient frescos.  Then another well deserved gelatto.  Becky tried a glass of Limoncello liqueur (Sandy it isn't bad at all) .  Then a bit more shopping in the market (yes, leather) and now we are here at the Internet VIP to let you all know.

We have seen all of your responses and are so happy your are enoying our musings.  We all laughed at all of your sharings.   PS thankyou Stephanie and John for your notes (John Becky hasn't opened it yet).  Also thanks Don and John for looking after mom sounds like great news.  We are all happy to hear she is vastly improving.  Keep pushing the fluids (from Becky the nurse). And to all of our friends who have responded, thanks.  Please Bill forward the blog to our Jeckyll friends (from Di).

Please check out our pictures that we hope we can upload.

Love to all and miss you all,
Karen (navigator and bargain negotiator), Laurie (organizer and technical advisor - I actually got the hot water working), Becky (keeps us laughing) and Dianne (our interpreter supreme)

mom, for my sake when i am seen with you in public, i hope you didn't buy that big ass pink hat! :D

free champagne and h'orderves and cappuccino.. you wouldn't see that kind of hospitality here! sounds like you are all having a wonderful time so far, and your apartment looks great.

i spent a few hours yesterday with grandma, and today as well. both days when i got there she was in pretty bad shape and i was very concerned, but after some time, she brightened up. today when i got there she was crying and calling out for help and was quite out of it. the nurse told me she had been trying to climb out of her wheelchair, so her bed was lowered all the way to the ground so she couldn't hurt herself. she was also apparently calling kevin's name all afternoon.

i got three glasses of fluids in her, plus a coffee, and stayed to feed her dinner as well. the nurse said she hadn't been eating, but i managed to get some food into her. we listened to some music while she had dinner in bed, and i read her your blog entries in between forced feedings. she says to bring her back a leather coat. ha! i told her not to expect that.

keep safe.

Great pics! They do tell a unique story! Looks like you are not having too much fun! Terrific!

Dianne, the "little Red jacket" was obviously looking for a good home! Don't wear it out before you return home.

Thanks Laurie et al for setting-up the blog. It seems to be working very well.
