Hi all, the sisters have arrived safely.  Di and Laurie were up since 9:00 and have been tooting around and bumped into the Duomo.  Listened to a tour guide for free and bought lunch.  Bec and Karen are still sawing logs.  We were headed back when we found this Internet place 1/2 hr for one Euro.

The Air Transat plane was new.  If you travel we recommend you upgrade as first class service was awesome.  Wide, leather seats. tons of leg room, free booze (all you want), decent food with cutlery and glass glasses and china dishes. Up to date movies.  The touch screens are a challenge - too soft a touch gets you nowhere and too hard takes you everywhere.

We arrived in Rome with ease.  Got ourselves cell phones (of course the cheapest were sold out) so we had to get the E39.00 and 15 min each phone time at 8 cents a minute total cost E25.00 each.  Do not have the phones with us but willl convey numbers soon (not that we want you to call us, so unless someone is dead do not call as we don't know if we have to pay for the call).

Yes, the suitcases were the worst of the legs of the trips on the train but we managed with some help and Dianne's muscles.  Absolutely no problems getting from every point to every point we needed to in order to get the train, and lightrail, and taxi.  The taxi driver was great and fit us all 4 sisters and their 200 pounds of luggage and various items in the taxi "No problemo".

Our pensione is basic, clean, no bugs, quiet, central to everything to walk to, and very spacious.  We have not had a problem yet to communicate as Dianne has her Italian down pretty well actually, but we can get our message across if we need to.  For all those teachers out there do not get excited about grammar, spelling and punctuation because we are working on a Italian computer and in a hurry.

We got in on time and the landlady was waiting for us - awesome and got
the keys, quickly cleaned up and left to get something to eat.  We ate at a wonderful trattoria just around the corner from our flat.  If we had the camera we would upload the picture, maybe next time.  The food was wonderful, free welcome champage and horderves, delicious wine of course emptied pretty quick.  Thanks Dianne for your champagne (this is Laurie typing).  The total with a very generous tip because of the freebies and the handsome owner was E35.00 each.

So, ciao for now.  Gotto go wake up the sleeping beauties and wave fresh pizza in their face.

Oh, and there are 4 bottles of wine waiting in the fridge.

Love and hugs and miss our hubbies,
Laurie and Dianne

Glad to hear you all arrived safely. Once Karen and Becky get their land legs again (after all the flying), they will just-a-be-groovying.
No plans to call and ding you on the cell phones. Mom is recovering slowly but surely. She was in the dining room for Saturday's supper. I am over there and being her worst nightmare. She loves her coffee, two cups Saturday morn, and a treat of her b-day butter pecan ice-cream that was still untouched in the fridge. I am presently, 6:30 am in the process of preparing mason jars, then pickling cukes for canning.Enjoy Italy, Florence, and if you got a kitchen you know you will find it mucn cheaper to cook your own! May the weather be good for you. Here, Isaac has arrived, but only cloud, rain on monday. Giovanni went to the send off party for Matthew and Amy and little one. I put together a survival kit for the three of them, including pro-life literature, rosaries, choclolate, and a little bit of money. Matthew cooked up a storm of salmon steaks and steaks on the bbq. Best of all. Sincerely, Giovanni

i'm glad you've all arrived safely, and that no one's backs were put out by their luggage. got quite the chuckle to learn that mom and karen were still in bed as of that entry. so typical! well, as least for mom, haha.

glad the trip is off to a great start!

Terrific up-date thank you. So pleased that all is going well. Your "favourite waiter" is going to do well in tips for the next month.

Went to the EX yesterday. After 6 hours, it was time to retreat to the backyard a beer. Cycled 20km today. Weather continues to be excellent.

FYI Dianne: If you access your Bell mail via our sympatico account, I had to change the password as it had expired. Use: Italy2012

Dinner at Paynters tonight.

Don (the youngest hubbie) on

Glad to hear you all are having a great time! I arrived safely in Salmon Arm after putting some long hours behind the wheel. I left Sudbury Friday and spent the night in Thunder Bay (1000 km). The next day I drove straight through to Swift Current SK.(1500 km). I arrived at Mom ad Dad's Sunday evening (1100 km). All is fine, but I have to admit I smelled a bit funky after spending 4 days behind the wheel. Love and missing you Laurie!
