So...I managaged to get about 25 miles under my belt before getting side-tracked by the amazing beauty of the landscape...are you getting sick of hearing that phrase from me, yet????  I stopped at a little place called Fruita, and took some pictures of the old Morman and Anasazi settlement.  Then Capital Reef grabbed me by the scruff and dragged me into it's deeply colored and earthy folds.  I was not planning of visiting any national parks as Roxi is not well recieved...no hiking with her.  But, I was sucked into the scenic drive.  It wasn't busy, so I snuck her on an easy hike up Capital Gorge...Mormon Pioneers carved their names into the canyon walls by some faded petrogyphs...and there were some pools made by the backwash of flash floods to see.  All very cool.  Then, on the way down, Roxi spotted some Mountain Sheep before me, and took off...as I yelled in a harsh whisper...,( so as not to draw attention to my delinquent dog, or disturb other hikers)....she actually listened to me...after the initial multi-second debate...The sheep of course took off, but they came back to have a look, one at a time, on the ledge directly above us.  It was really cool.

But, that is not the end of this great day.  In the campground, I was sitting in my van in a nice little spot without a fire ring, humming and haaahing to myself if I liked it or not.  After a while, I decided to go for a tour of the campground to see if I could find a nice spot WITH a fire ring, as I had been lugging about a haul of found and scavenged firewood since Green River...no shit.  And, it was getting very chilly at night, so the thought of a fire was very appealing.  Driving around, I notice this tanned fellow in a bright red pullover with a white beard...There was something familiar about him so I kept looking at him as I drove closer....I looked from him to the woman beside him...and back, and forth, until..."Oh, my God!!!  That's Lee and June from TRU".  Unbelievable.  Lee was my Physics 12 professor, and June, his wife, was a visual arts student (now graduated) that I chatted with regularly.   Needless to say, we drank a few glasses of wine and had a great visit.  Turns out they crossed into the US the same day as myself, and paralleled my course down through the states, just East a few hundred miles...Isn't that bizarre?  Moreover, if I hadn't been my fussy self, we would have quite likely just by passed each other none the wiser...
The cosmic flick of a finger...
