The "athlete" has just returned from the opposite of a high altitude
training camp - two weeks of eating and drinking heavily in the USA...
The
holiday started with a flustered (mildly hungover) panicked Saturday
morning, commencing with three hours at work - from 7 to 10 am - and the
purchase of a suitcase before frantic packing and a charge down to
London to catch a 5pm flight to JFK.
Typically arrangements upon
landing in New York were slightly fluid, life becoming especially
difficult as my Blackberry ran out of juice on arrival so I could no
longer communicate with Shelley who was already in the States (although I
could at least read historic emails). It had been my job to book the
hotel in NY, which I had failed to do. Shelley had found one, located
directly opposite Central Park, which I would be responsible for paying
for. I couldn't really argue, given my complete failure to sort things
out, at least not until the bill arrived and started with a $5....Ouch.
Anyway, NYC was fantastic and included a superb meal and homemade Grappa, which blew my head off, at a top notch Italian in Tribeca
on the Monday night. This made Tuesday's bus journey to Baltimore (we
missed the first bus - despite being 30 minutes early for it - by
standing on the wrong side of the road) somewhat excruciating...
