Monday 09.05.2011 – happy birthday to Greg's baby sister Cathy BATEUP who lives in Canberra. The big five O (50) today. We sent her an SMS wishing her the best.

We rode north to the city of Laval and it was pretty ordinary scenery wise. Even though we avoided the Autoroute and stuck to country roads, is was rather unremarkable. Kerrie even amused herself by taking photos of vapor trails!

The ride highlight was 40 km along the edge of the Loire River riding on basically a levee bank.

The Loire River seems to be suffering the same fate as the Murray-Darling basin - too much water being taken out from a combination of over farming and too little going in due to climate change/variation.

We checked into our Ibis hotel on the edge of town. We were both fatigued so decided to eat in the hotel restaurant and have an early night. Kerrie was fast asleep by 9.00 pm while Greg retired at 11.30 pm after working on the Blog. So much for an early night.

On packing up the P-D in next morning we took some interesting photos of a guy we think is named Randolph WEST by the sign on the back, who was riding a push bike and towing a trailer with two dogs in it.

The dogs were so well trained he walked them over to the grass where they both did a pee on command and then hopped into their buggy, one at a time, one facing right and the other left.

The guy was riding around the world raising money for cancer research.

As Kerrie said, he must be doing OK with his donations because he could afford a three star hotel.

There was nothing else to report about Laval because we never went in to town – too buggered!

Cath on

I'm enjoying the blogs immensely, but now feel impelled to comment - a simple happy birthday would have been sufficient, no need to tell the world how old I am now:))
