Right now we're sitting in our motorhome in Forest City, Iowa! It's hard to believe we're heading out tomorrow! It seems like we've been waiting forever to do this!
So, this morning we flew from Abq to Denver, had about 2 seconds to change planes, and then flew to Minneapolis. Once we got to Minneapolis, we had about 5 hours to wait for our shuttle to drive us to the motorhome headquarters. For being a big airport we expected lots of food choices.. We were starving and there was no food anywhere in the airport (except a Caribou Coffee). But... the Mall of America was only a ten minute light rail ride from the airport! We had been there once before for a short time and really wanted to go back to ride some of the roller coasters (there is an amusement park in the mall). With it being only 10 minutes away and the light rail coming right into the airport it seemed like it would work just great to head to the Mall - except we didn't know what to do with our luggage. So, we left Dad in the airport with all 12 bags and Mom, Tracy, and I headed off to the Mall of America.
We got some lunch and then went to the amusement park. Tracy and I rode two roller coasters: one was straight up, then straight down, with a lot of corkscrews and turns - it was really fun! There was also a ropes course there which we did. You had to put on a harness and get hooked into the course safety device, and then you could go through all of these obstacles (swinging ropes, bouncy steps, tightropes, and much more). There were four 'floors' of obstacles. It was a bit scary at points, but also really fun. It was really neat that we got to go to MOA for a couple of hours - we hadn't planned on doing that.
Once back at the airport(and bringing back some lunch for Dad) we got our shuttle to the 'rally grounds'. It was amazing when we drove up - a huge field with about 300 identical (except for size) motorhomes. We looked through this huge pile of luggage to find ours, then went to find our motorhome. We're hoping once we all get going we'll spread out a bit. Now we're here in our motorhome unpacking and getting organized. Tomorrow after our orientation we get to head out. I'm so excited!!! :D - Stephanie
