Wonderful to see big Jon's smiling face at the airport. Elias and Myrna Valdez also were here to meet us. Jon had just arrived from Houston.
Monterrey is a sprawling city of 3.5 million. third largest in Mexico, but by far th most advanced. A 45 minute drive takes us to the home and convention grounds.
Very special to have a night with Elias & Myrna, and her sister Angelita who lives with them, plus E. & M.'s professing daughter Elizabeth who is a working architect, having graduated about 6 months ago. All hearty people in the truth. The Monterrey convention is held at this homeplace. 650 will gather in a few weeks.
So much for losing some weight. The typical mexican food adourns the tables like a kingly feast. From tortillas to fresh guacamole, we eat like we have not seen food for days.
After supper we reside to the living room where Jon entertains us with beautiful piano music. Myrna is the sister to the late Juvantino Valdez who wrote hundreds of hymns. Very nostelgic as this is where he was from.
The morning starts with traditional Yerba Matte from Chile. It feels good to be back in the habit. Breakfast seems like it;s their largest meal! An outpouring from the cosina (kitchen).
The morning is spent doing the local sightseeing of the University (The daughter Elizbeth is an aspiring architect who is doing her practicum at the university), olde Monterrey, Santa Lucia Riverwalk , Capital buildings, lookout points, etc.
Lunch is the highlight of today. It is Myrna birthday, so we go to the famous El Rey del Cabritos (king of the baby goat) restaurant. It is world renowned for this very typical monterrey dish.
That afternoon, they took us over to Jaime & Exie Cavazos' home. Jaime's faithful old widowed mother, Sra Maria, is in her mid-eighties. Her husband and faithful elder, don Isaías Cavazos, died a few years ago. Nice to be with them for supper all together with several relates. Wonderful feeling and fellowship with them.
That evening Jon and I walk two blocks away to Benjamin & Rita Lopez' (Jaime's sister) for the night, after some music---they also have a piano.
