Today the team spilt into two as there was a lot to get done. The big van went far north to visit Vratsa orphanage, Boychinovtsi Juvenile Prison and pass some boxes to Mick Cooper of Phoenix Inspire. The small van trod more familiar territory visiting orphanages in the Botevgrad area.

Actually the first stop was an old folks home that has only been open a couple of years. We weren't aware of it but one of the orphanage directors encouraged them to get in touch and we were only to happy to take some shoeboxes for the residents. There local TV and photographers were waitng for us and Rich P had to make a speech which resulted in no elderly people falling asleep so we were then able to distribute the gifts. After being kissed by lots of old ladies were able to reflect on how grateful the residents were for their presents. Sewing kits were a particular hit.

We then went on to Vidrare orphanage which is earmarked for closure. We had a discussion with the director about the meerrits of moving so many vulnerable disabled kids to new units in Botevgrad and Sofia. Many staff will also lose thier jobs at what is comfortably the biggest employer in the village so the issue is a tricky one.

We finished the day visiting Razliv (where the electricity cut out just as we were giving out the presents- hence soma dark pics) and Gurkovo orphanages, places very familiar to us from previous years. We hope the pics and video tell the story...
