Welcome to our 2011 Bulgaria Summer Camp blog. Over the next couple of weeks a team of young volunteers will be helping to give 40 children from Lipnitsa Orphanage/School a holiday at the Black Sea. These kids live at the school most of the year but outside of term time, when the school is closed, they have to live in the dangerous Roma communities, abusive family situations or the streets; the only "home" they ave known outside of the school.

Today was just about travelling for the team and catching up with old friends for some of them. on the 19th we travel to the beach with the children and the camp will begin  but in the meantime we have time to acclimatise to the (very hot) weather, assemble the team (some are coming from different areas of the UK) and get ready for the fun to come.

I'll introduce you to the youth team: Alice Hudson, Hannah Babey, Chris Davis, Chris Parsons, Charlotte Bannister and Keenan Fester are all first timers at the camp. They'll be joined by Shaun Hill, a two time SC vet and endlessley enthustiastic camp supporter/fundraiser. Leading the youth team, but not so youthful himself these days, is Rich Parsons, Bulgaria Operations Manager (UK) for the Trussell Trust.

Joining us again this year are Pete & Maggie Cole from Wales (Salt & Light company). Lastly we will host the Fostr family from Salisbury for a few days as they visit and join in the fun.

Our transation team this year are Pepe, Bogi, Viki, Any and Valya.

We got to House of Joshua (the first project of the Trust's House of opportunity Programme) afetr starting our day at stupid o'clock with out any hitches. Or so we thought: only aftr we got here did Alice discover that she had picked an identical, but wrong bag, at the airport. All is well though and the bags will be swapped back by tomorrow's end, all being well.

Tomorrow we'll catch up with the staff and residents of House of Joshua and introduce you to a Bulgarian TV star...
