Sat / Sun 22nd 23rd May

Over the weekend, Julian had his boys again, and had organised a trip to the Rugby sevens in Twickenham. The weather ever since I returned has been fabulous, and on Saturday it was as hot as we ever get it in England over the summer.  And it's only May.  So I meet them all in Twickenham, and drop off my hire car.  We get to the stadium early, and have a wonder about, before the first game.  For those that don’t know, the World Rugby Sevens is whereby world countries come to play short 14 minute games.  There are a few we definitely wanted to see, and in between times, we were able to picnic on the back of the car, play rugby with the boys and have trousers drop to our ankles whilst playing!  Oscar managed a new trick, which was kicking over somebody’s pint of beer which was on the ground, and getting it to stand upside-down without spilling a drop!  Genius!  It was yet another wonderful day, filled with fun, laughter and memories for all four of us.

On Sunday we were invited to Jane, Charlie and Gabe’s home for a barbeque.  Blissfully sunny day again, and with a paddling pool there really was only one outcome.  Wrestling and water fights abundant, and 3 very wet children, and a couple of adults too.  Unless you count me as a child and then there’s 4.  The photo’s I think say it all.  Earlier that day Jules bought me a cowboy hat...mmmm!

Mon 24th

So now focusing primarily on the imminent holiday, we head to Heathrow the night before our flight.  We stay in the Thistle and have dinner whilst watching planes come in and take off.  Jules attempted to set me up with some rather old looking, but I am sure charming) men whilst watching the Mexico football match.

Tues 25th

Up early and straight through to departures and the BA lounge.  Travelling business class is so much more civilised, and when that includes champagne with your breakfast it simply doesn’t get any better.  The worst thing was due to the BA strike (what strike) we were unable to have newspapers on the flight.  How terrible!

We arrive in Nairobi after a flight that was not dissimilar to spending a nice afternoon in a pub or wine bar.  We are picked up by our tour guide, and introduced to Francis who will be driving and animal hunting for us over the coming 5 days for our Kenyan safari.

He takes us to the Holiday Grim in Nairobi, which I have to tell you, is without a doubt the nicest Holiday Grim I have ever stayed in to the point that I may even need to call it by it’s proper name.

Over breakfast by the pool side, a large bird attempted to attack me ad Jules by swooping down after the bread on the table.  First signs of wildlife I guess.
