Flag of Thailand  , Chiang Mai,
Tuesday, December 29, 2009

I am swaying back
and forth in my hammock, the wind is breezy and blows white curtains hanging
from bamboo rods on the upper level of my bungalow deck. In the distance I see
a shirtless Thai man working in a field, he appears to be raking tall grass
next to the rice crops. There are various smells in the air, that of grass or
hay, something spicy and a hint of burning smoke. This place looks similar to
Kelowna BC, but without the lake. Pai is situated in a valley of mountainous
hills, covered by many different species of trees and flora, with the bamboo
trees being my favorite. There are even really big, tall trees just like the
ones you would see in Okanogan Valley of BC.

December 25th came and past without any difference or significance for me this year. Didn't even give it much thought really. It just simply passed on by like any other ordinary day. It was nice actually. I remember eating a chicken burger for a change, instead of Thai food. It was the best chicken burger I've ever eaten in my life. Think maybe I'll have another one tomorrow.

I can’t say that
I’ve done a whole lot of different things since my arrival here in Pai one week
ago. Most days are passed in hanging out with other travelers. Eating seems
to be a large part of that. If you think about it, I eat on average three to
four times a day and each meal can last up to an hour by the time you sit, eat,
talk and pay. Walking is also a big part of the day, I probably walk at least 4
hours throughout the 15 hour day either getting to point A and B or taking
photos of various things. Add them together and an 8 hour day is consumed. I also spend lots of time reading, just finished yesterday Nick Hornby's book, "Slam". It was just Ok I thought for an elite author.

My bungalow is very nice, I think it’s the best one here at the resort even though it
isn’t the most expensive at about $20 a day. What makes it special is the fact
that it’s the only hut with the room on the 2nd floor. My deck is large and private, it has a hammock, floor cushion, a
little table and a built in bench at the top of the stairs. The ground floor
area consists of a sink, beautiful concrete counter top, mirror and a door which enters to a spacious and unique shower room with toilet.

The preceding was
written about 8 hours ago. I've since discovered something horrifying… for
whatever reason I cannot find my pictures from the last month which totals
about 2000 images. I feel sick, but the only thing I can do is hope to download
software and try to recover lost or deleted files and folders from this computer.
I’m open to suggestions Jeff and Jocelyne or anyone else that know the technical side of computers or MAC’S behaving badly. I’m trying to blame this on my computer, but clearly I
did something wrong and clearly I unknowingly deleted them. Thus I am sorry
that I have no current pictures to show, but I’ll post an older image of a
cloud I shot at sunset about 6 weeks ago, sadly it's the only image I can find on the computer :(

I’m currently
laying in bed surrounded by pillows and blankets under my mosquito net. At
night the temperature can drop and has dipped to a frigid 7 degrees on
more than a few nights, so it’s not the hot and humid weather of the beaches,
but it’s a nice cool change…. At least for a while, we’ll see. I will try and write more in the next couple of days and hopefully I will have better news concerning the pictures.

Stay warm.

T

PS, I did amazingly find one more image of my deck area where I currently and staying....

Hi Troybabs, Sorry about your pictures...if you accidentally deleted them...they should be in your recycle bin...so check your recycle bin which is an icon on your computer.

Oh no! A friend of mine did this. He deleted his photos while they were still on his camera.

He took them to a store that specializes in recovering lost data. He had a Canon camera, so he went to a Canon store.

$150 later, the photos were back!

Try and find a store that caters to your brand of camera, you should be able to get them back. In the meantime, DON'T put anything more on your camera, it will start to overwrite what's already there.

Violet May! [get it??]

Bud, missed our annual It's A Wonderful Life viewing yet again. Thought of you during Xmas when our kids eyes lit up at the sight of the Christmas tree, presents, and otherwise unabashed excitement. I hope you find the pics and that your New Year is celebrated in true Troy fashion.
Wish we were there with you.

Hi Troy,

Soooo sorry to hear about your pictures. I have hints apart from not emptying the recycling bin and see if you can find a live mac helper. Hopefully you can recover them since they seem just amazing (at least the ones that were posted!).
