I left the Island of Koh Lanta about 5 days ago to hop over to another popular Island. Took a passenger ferry boat that holds about 200 people. Fifteen minutes into the open water and the engine failed. In good Thai fashion and 20 minutes later another ferry had arrived to transfer us on to the new boat and in no time the bags were all packed and we were on our way once again. Ten minutes in, the new boat suddenly stopped. The engine on this one also failed. It wasn't long before a third boat arrived and we did the routine all over again and hence, third times a charm. Incredibly, after all that, we had arrived on Koh Phi Phi just an hour off of schedule. I must say the Thai people scramble well and end up... "gett'n r done".

I've had a few more cuts on my feet since the last entry, 2 of which are infected. You wouldn't think that beach life would be so hard on the feet but it has it's risks. Walking all day, everyday, everywhere in flip flops is great don't get me wrong, it's just that sooner or later, they get beat up by a good stubbing on a rock or scratched by pieces of wood or corral on the beach. However, I have no reason to complain after an American girl I know at my last resort took a motorbike spill and wiped out on the road and ended up with massive skin abrasions on her shoulder, arm, hands, hip, thigh, calf, foot and lost toe nails. After 2 days we ended up sending her to Bangkok where she could get cared for properly. That was about 10 days ago and she was released today. Good thing I have lots motorbike experience, knock on wood, I drive nearly every day.

Think I'll head back to Bangkok on Wednesday, then work my way up North where the temperatures are a little cooler and the nights will force me to sleep with blankets for the first time. I'll miss the beach life, but I'll be back again early in the new year I think, we'll see where the wind blows. Thus far I've lost about 5 lbs in the month that I've been here... not sure how exactly, seems like I eat all the time, nonetheless I also look 5 years years younger as well, so a good trade off I think :)

Today is Sunday. And I only know this because it says so on my computer, actually it's still on Calgary time so I just have to advance it 14 hours in my head. The bright light of the days sun has been replaced with the darkness of the night and I'm lying here in bed incased by the protection of the provided $5 mosquito net to keep out all of the things that go bump in the night, including cockroaches, flies, the odd rat and the possibly snake, but mostly it's just for my physiological peace of mind.

The sunset picture is the way it was taken about a week ago, unaltered. The woman in the mirror photo was taken on my way to Koh Phi Phi 5 days ago... she looks exhausted from the 3 boat transfers.

Thats it for now, will try and post something tomorrow perhaps, got to pick up the slack.

cheers,

T
