Where I stayed
Abashiri is famous for having the harshest prison in the country. I think the old version of it was but the current buildings are much better. I visited the prison museum which has removed the old buildings and reconstructed them in the museum so you can see what conditions were like. It was very interesting even if I did get a little spooked by some of the displays! I continued from here up to the top of a mountain to get a good view of the ice floes on the sea. Yes it`s bloomin` cold here! The museum of Northern Peoples documents the indigenous Ainus of Japan and their links with inuits, native Americans etc. It was an amazing museum and well worth the 14km hike! Pics to follow....

Sea ice eh? Must by quite cool there! Don't get incorporated into a sculpture!

Hi Mate
Well this is all getting a bit out of hand. All the photos and fun are a bit much for those of us tied to the same desk :o) It looks sensational and you haven't lost your touch with the camera. Keep posting.
