Before I headed to Sendai I had another morning in Tokyo and I had my first experience of an earthquake/tremor. It was only mild but I reckon a bigger one must be pretty scary! I then went to Tokyo bay and took the most frightening ride of my life in a ferris wheel that was buffetted by the strong wind. I was convinced the cage I was in was going to fly off. but it was worth it for the amazing view I got of Fuji San  (Mount Fuji) covered in snow.

I then went to Sendai to see one of the top three sights in Japan (according to the Japanese) which is nearby Matsushima Bay. The bay is full of around 250 small islands and it is very beautiful. I spent a day wandering around the area in the snow and also fell into a small hole (which was covered in snow - hoew was I to know?!). There is a clear difference between the cosmopolitan cities and the smaller cities in terms of the attitude of the Japanese towards you. Up there I was much more of an alien and it felt a bit weird.

I stayed in a  traditional guesthouse which was lovely - but I woke up this morning to find my room was 9 degrees. Why do they think paper walls will be acceptable in the snow??? Can't upload pictures on this computer unfortunately.

I am now in Kyoto but I'll write more about that in a couple of days....

Thanks for all your messages and emails. It's lovely to hear from you all. Keep them coming.

Holes in the snow
Try not to fall into any more holes Vic - perhaps you need a walking stick! I thought it would be getting warmer for you as you went south?
Snow here is getting quite thick and I'm off to scouse land if the trains are running.
Love M&D xx
