We went to Bodrum and it was beautiful. We got there early in the morning and decided we wanted to spend the night there. So we started by having breakfast in a small café and then trying to find a hostel, which didn't take long. We checked in and then headed down to the tourist information centre. We got lots of literature on Bodrum. Just around the corner from the info desk, there was Bodrum Castle. Inside the castle, it has an underwater archaeology museum. We spent about 3 hours going through it all. It was a large castle and it is one of the best preserved castles in Turkey. Inside the castle, there were peacocks running around. They were so nice to see. I have never seen them in real life before. Sait was even able to get me a feather that had the eye in it. The other thing I saw there that I have never seen before is they had a white peacock. It was beautiful.
From the castle, we went to the centre of town to see Halicarnasus, the Mausoleum that is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. That's right! I have now seen one of the Seven Wonders of the World! There was not much left of it other than the foundation anymore, but it was still amazing to see. The reason that the Mausoleum is not standing anymore is that the Knights of Saint John tore it down to use the marble and rocks to build the castle. It's a sad story that humans can be so destructive.
I really enjoyed Bodrum. It was one of my favorite places we've gone so far. We left the Mediterranean and we were on the Agean Sea. The water was colder, but I liked the area more. The smaller town was nice and we were close to everything. We have an early bus to Pamukkale in the morning and we've done so much that we are so tired. A bed will be nice tonight.
