Arrived in Bangkok at 5.55am and waited in Passport Control FOREVER! Some woman got really angry she had to wait so long and she started hitting the poor Passport Control woman, so she hid under the desk...pretty funny way to break the boring monotony of waiting in the passport control area.
Arrived at my hotel (New World Lodge, located in the Banglamphu area) and had some breakfast. Walked around the immediate area to suss things out and went to bed for a bit of a rest. Later on that day I ventured out for dinner across the road and had the BEST Pad Thai meal, as recommended to me by my friend Lisa who did the same tour! :) After that went to bed quite early as I had a pre-tour briefing the next morning.
The next morning I had a short walk around the area. I then met up with my tour leader, Vaughan in the foyer of the hotel for the pre-tour briefing. A couple, L & T (England) turned up, then O (Scotland), then D (Canada). I learned I had a "house-mate", E (England), so I went to meet her and settle into my room. After the briefing, a few of us decided to check out Chatuchak Weekend Market after D had his Thai massage, lol. Market was pretty cool, but amazingly I refrained from buying anything (too early in the tour to be lugging stuff around). Later that day we had the "tour briefing" which included everyone (6 people on our tour had been doing a Vietnam & Cambodia tour previously, our tour kind of tacked onto the end of theirs), then out for cocktails on Khao San Road, then for beers to Shamrocks on Khao San Road!
The next day D, R, O and I went to check out some temples and the Grand Palace, was pretty cool. We are catching the overnight train to Chiang Mai tonight, I hear there is a "disco-train" compartment, woohoo!
