Erin here. This morning, we basically waited for Frau Herzog to arrive in Florence. It took us only about 20 min to get to our apartment from the airport. Trish took an hour and a half! Apparently, her taxi had a couple of accidents en route . . . first a vespa slammed into the taxi, and shortly thereafter, the taxi sideswiped a bus. However, after a few expletives, the driver pressed on.

We ventured out to the Ponte Vecchio and window shopped . . . and I'm sure you are all very relieved that Trish is here with her camera and technology so that you now actually have something to look at! The 3 of us are hopelessly challenged in that area. We trekked to the Duomo and stopped for lunch at a lovely outdoor cafe where we actually also ate yesterday. Had some excellent food . . . and don't the pictures look like Le Gourmand magazine? Delectable I tell ya. After finishing off our meal with Tiramisu, apple cake, and cappuccino, we decided to climb the Campanile (tower adjacent to the Duomo). Only 414 steps . . . truly just a light constitutional. Wonderful photo ops.

After that, we strolled thru the shopping district to the Piazza San Signorine to photograph the sculpture garden with thee replica of David, Zeus, and others. We had planned to then head back to the flat for a rest and sandbox break, but NOOOOO . . . the daylight was fading fast and Jay ushered us up to the Palacio di Michelangelo for a spectacular sunset view of thee city when the sun casts shadows over the Arno and the terra cotta rooftops.

Now we are back at the flat relaxing over antipasti and vino on the patio listening to the sounds of Florentines preparing for the evening meal.

Flawless writing from the both of you. So descriptive!! I'm thinking of sharing the photos with my students, sans David and the vino!! Enjoy folks!! LY

Florence may be one of my all time favorite cities. Sit in the square and have a gelleto for me. In fact ask them for three different kinds in one dish. Love hearing you are there. ENJOY
