Well, finally it's my turn to head across the pond!  Yippee!  I am soooo ready for a vacation!  I spoke with Erin yesterday around 10:30am CST and they had just gotten in and settled.  That would have been 5:30pm in Italy.  FYI ~ we'll be 7 hours ahead of you guys here at home in the Midwest CST.  Tad and Erin said their flight was wonderful and uneventful.  The only comment Erin had was that, because she was sleeping, she didn't get to see the Alps as they flew over them.  She did say, however, that Tad did get see them and told her how absolutely breathtaking they were.  Ruh roh!  Well, I think, they'll be on a similar flight path heading home so she'll get a second chance... and so will Tad.

Now, as for Jay, I understand that his flight experience was a bit different.  Something about small children and screaming...hmmm.  Can't imagine what the problem there might be.  I can't wait to hear more about his flight.  Sounds interesting to me...pardon the puns.

Erin did tell me that our accommodations in Florence are wonderful.  So glad to hear that, as you never know until you get there.  We've rented an apartment not far from the Ponte Vecchio bridge in the heart of Florence.  The Ponte Vecchio is on the far left, in our "main blog photo", which is a very colorful and very beautiful photograph, and no, I didn't take it...

Speaking of photographs, Erin has been sending me photos throughout the night from her cell phone so I'm sharing a few of those in this blog. Looks like they're out and about and having fun! Erin then texted me and said she was a "fashion disaster". After I stopped laughing, I texted her back and told her to be patient and wait until I arrive because, no doubt, whatever I'm wearing will make hers look better.

Well, it's time for me to sit back and relax and enjoy a much needed break from things...and I'm going to do just that!  Next time you hear from me, hopefully, I will have blown through the Windy City, hopped the pond, seen the Alps in all their breathtaking splendor, and had my first glass of vino in Italia.

Until then... Arrivederci amici!

P.S. - not sure how the photos will display. They may be in the blog or below it. It'll be a surprise to both of us!
