Another day of changed plans!
The day dawned bright and sunny after the rain yesterday, so we thought we'd make the most of it and go to Pompeii. We walked down to the rail station, only to find that all the trains were on strike! Probably going out in sympathy with their French counterparts!
So, to Plan B! As it was a fantastic day we decided to make the most of it, and catch the ferry over to the Isle of Capri. I’m so glad we did. It looked spectacular in the morning sunshine, and we had a simply brilliant day.
We wandered around Capri and had an iced coffee before walking up to Tiberius’s Palace at the top of the Isle. It was a very warm uphill walk for an hour, but so worth the workout! The views from the top were just stunning, and Mt Vesuvius looked incredible. The remains of Tiberius’s Palace were amazing, and commanded a prime position over-looking most of Capri and out towards the mainland. A beautiful, as well as strategic position during his reign as Emperor between 14-37 AD.
After some time enjoying the site we walked back into the town, and decided to catch a bus up to Ana Capri. Wow! Talk about the lifestyles of the rich and famous!! Beautiful streets and designer shops galore! Not to mention the swankiest hotels imaginable!
We took a ski-lift ride to the top, and again had 360 deg views around the Isle, of the 3 Sirenes and across to Massa Lubrense. We enjoyed a yummy gelato there and then headed back to Capri before catching the ferry back to Sorrento.
So another wonderful day, and fingers crossed the weather and the trains will be on our side for Pompeii tomorrow!
