How fun is this, hopping on a train for the weekend to Paris...no plans except to wander  and graze a little.  I was so glad Brigette had the energy to go, it made it so much more fun for me.  We decided to take the TGV, the super fast train, to give ourselves a nice start for the weekend, too bad the most immature inconsiderate young business guy in france happened to be in the same car with us.  He was so obnoxious and loud and irritating.  Luckily the very well grooomed and lavender shirted conductor was not a pushover and had the police waiting at the station in paris.  that was satisfying to see.
Our hotel by chance was on the famous creperie street in montparnasse, who knew there were so many places to have crepes,( rue de montparnasse, in case you need to go, not blvd.)  we walked and walked, down to the seine, found a bistro for some great steak/frites.
saturday we wandered trying to find this elusive restaurant that I had trouble finding even when I lived there, so it was fruitless, and we ended up at a random place to eat that was so- so, oh well.  thanks for indulging my nostalgia brigette and wandering with me!  we wandered into the gay pride parade, there were zillions of people and lots of pink boas.  The interesting twist was that they had floats for civic offices, like gay train workers and police.  I don't think that happens at home.
we walked so much we started to ache.  we found a great place for dinner on the Ile st. louis, super mellow with a violinist, a fat dog and kids running around the place.
Brigette left on sunday and I headed to a garden show, chaumont sur loire, that I have always wanted to see, it is always featured in Landscape architecture magazine....it was about two hours from paris, but I braved the rain and hauled myself out there.  I am not sure the garden installations were the best, but I am glad I went to satisfy my curiosity.
anyway, paris was great, I will need to go back soon to do some more wandering.
