Where I stayed
Took an easy bus ride up to Nairobi to visit my friend Kevin Boherer, a friend from Mauritania, it was long but I knew I could rest once I got there. I met Chris Snipes at the Norfolk hotel...he was also in Mauritania(coming inas I was going), and I hadn't seen him in 17 years!!! He was also there to visit Kevin from his 'adjudicating' work in the US embassy in Poland. We were whisked off to a restaurant by Kevin's driver Benjamin while we waited to 'pick' Kevin from the embassy at the end of his work day. It was great seeing these guys, it is always grounding to see people that connect to your past, and they are alot of fun too!
Kevin had arranged a weekend trip with his friends to a beautiful house near Mt. Kenya and we were lucky enough to tag along. We lived it up, playing croquet, swimming and drinking cosmos. It was so much fun, the house was so beautiful, and Keven's friends were fun to hang out with. After the weekend, Kevin, Chris and I headed to a lodge in Samburu for some game drives. Benjamin not only drove us around all the dusty roads, but spotted alot of animals too. We stayed in nice furnished tents on the river where we were surrounded by naughty monkeys poised to take any morsel of food they could snatch. We headed back to Nairobi, more eating, more shopping, and then Chris had to head back to the cold north. I tagged along again as Kevin had another weekend with friend's to see the cape town opera performing Porgy and Bess in Hell's Gate nat. park. The scenery was amazing, we made a huge picnic and had one of Kevin's great drink concoctions. We camped and then took a hike around Crater lake the next day and had a langourous picnic with giraffes and zebras...so cool!!
Anyway, Kevin has been a great host, he has an awesome house with a pretty garden, two cute dogs, fun friends...I feel really lucky to have had the chance to see his life here!
