Maris- Hey! We've moved out of Itapetininga and are now chilling in a small town called Sorocaba. We're only here to see the zoo and catch a bus to the beach. Yes.....everyone is getting pretty anxious to start surfing. The last week has been very busy, mostly consisting of lots of parties. I'm not complaining. We also went to a crazy waterfall in the middle of nowhere the other day. It was a relief to get out of the noisy city for a bit. Geez....there are definitely no noise laws here. I don't think any of the cars have mufflers, and they have these "advertisement" cars that go around town playing commercials 24/7. I think all the cement like reverberates the sound or something. Ahhh....I can't wait for the beach. We've rented a super cheap cabin-thing on the beach, except it comes with 6 beds so we're looking for more takers. Luckily, we've already convinced 2 more people to come, so there's only one bed left. Anyone interested??

Dara - Hi everyone! I'm feeling a little tired and lazy this Sunday afternoon...(I just woke up).  I don't think I've ever been to so many parties ever -  and in Brazil anything can turn into a party.  You drop by to say hi to someone and bang, people are suddenly popping out of nowhere and food starts appearing... it's amazing.  Everyone in Itapetininga has been very kind to us.  Through them we've learned so much about life in Brazil.  Isaac and I have been building a mental list of differences between Brazil and Canada.  It's a very long list.  Made longer by the fact that we are in the background during most conversations (it's almost as though everyone is speaking a different language...)   My Portuguese, however, is getting pretty good.  I can't say much but I can usually figure out what everyone is talking about.  Words I know stick out - this is what I hear:  oewir owierjlsdoie very cool slkdjfoie sdijf city soidf cold slfkdoi warm cloths slkdfjoew me too.  It's kind of fun trying to puzzle it all together.  I Isaac and I also have a list of Portuguese words that sound funny to our English ears, our personal favorites being knife, straw, napkin, ace and dog.  Brazilians think umbrella and balloon and funny words.

Pato Do Mango
Hey Dara - thanks for the info - it was no help at all! :) It's hard to fill your shoes at the Museum. Especially seeing as my feet are so small.
I am thoroughly enjoying living vicariously through your blog. Seems like you are all having a great time. How much time are you spending keeping Isaac from the clutches of all those beautiful Brazilian women?
Don't worry about your Mom - I made sure she only spent $20 at the casino. I'll keep an eye on her so she doesn't gamble away your inheritance!

Something is definately wrong...
You guys have been down in South America for more than 2 weeks now, but in all of your pictures you are still bleach white! You should spend less time indoors partying, and more time partying outside. Or, maybe it is because the sun can't reach your skin. This can be remedied by a good haircut(Isaac), or more time surfing/looking for treasure. Anyways, more sun, more partying, and more blogging will make for a better trip. Keeping it real...Beames away!!!

Hi Guys
Alright... unfortunatelly my English is not that good so I'll have to write in Portuguese... then you can ask Maris to translate it for you... Sorry...
See you soon!!!

Like you were next door
Great to hear all of your voices last night on the phone and to not be cut off after a few seconds. It's hard to get into conversational gear because there is so much to say, and where do you start, I know(and so much left unsaid that moms shouldn't have access to-ha!). Let us know the name of the town/beach where you are going to hang for awhile. That sounds like the perfect spot to relax and do your own thing for awhile. Nice to have some Brazilian friends along who can smooth a few paths I'm sure. Have you been playing much music guys? Dad was wondering about the guitar, Maris and whether it arrived intact. Speaking of playing I guess I'll hit the piano keys for a bit-there's a Windmill practice again tonight. Love mom
ps. take pictures of this beach house ok?!

mom's lament
Glad to hear from dad that you were all hale and hearty and moving on. Too bad I missed your call Maris but I guess it was pretty short. How was the surfing, beaching etc.? Isaac did you shoot the proverbial curl? Dad says that your beach house wasn't quite as nice as depicted-oh well, I imagine you didn't have to spend too much time inside anyways. It couldn't have been as bad as the King's Cove house, right Dara?! I've been practicing quite a bit and there's another windmill deal tonight. We've got a ton of snow here-it's not too cold and looks prettier than that brown stuff. Keep on blogging, guys! Love mom
