We drove from 11 to 11, and just made it passed the mississippi into Iowa.  I drove and Vanessa snapped the pictures through our bug splattered windshield.

Earlier, as Vanessa was following me from Erie to Ashtibula to drop off the kittens, she said that my lights were'nt working so well, especially my turn signalls.  i checked, they were faint but they definately worked. However after a couple of hours and a lot of honks and dirty looks, we realized that no matter how long before my turn or manuver I put the signal on, people really couldn't see them.  So as we cruised that first day, we left a wake of angery drivers, but we sure appreciated the landscape!

The thing about really flat land is that it makes for a way bigger sky, so while it may have gotten a little boring checking out farms the end of the day made it all worth while.  The sun set lasted half the evening, but when it was over we were beat.

We crashed at a state park in Davenport, Iowa.  it took me some time to figure out how a couple of the more intricate elecrical hook ups worked but we had lights when I was done, then we shut them off immediately.

Iowa
It is amazing how flat it is west of Erie. When I drove out to Denver with your Uncle Bill in the early 70s, we got to Des Moines, Iowa, and decided to stop at a motel on the other side of the city, to avoid morning rush hour. We didn't find anything until Omaha, Nebraska! With the camper you won't have that problem.
