We are heading west today to the Gulf of Mexico and the beach near St Petersburg and Clearwater. The Town of North Redington Beach lies in the heart of the Suncoast's beach communities, halfway between the northern and southern tips of the barrier islands.
Forget any thoughts of oil on the beach - although it was in the Gulf this place is hundreds of miles from there so all that's here is pristine white sand and beatiful warm water. This is the first place I've been where swimming in the sea felt like dropping into a warm bath.
The hotel we found via the internet and much browsing of tripadvisor reviews is the Doubletree North Redington Beach and is, so far (and granted it is only day 1), superb. It is located right on the beach with direct access to the sand and just 30 or 40 yards from the water's edge. We write this blog sitting on our balcony listening to the waves breaking on the shore, listening to light carribbean (or is it supposed to be hawaiian ?) music. Just lovely.
We ate dinner in the restaurant on site tonight. All you can eat buffet for $20 was just too enticing as was the thought of having a glass (or two) of wine without needing to drive.
