Where I stayed
Happy Birthday to me ..... yes it was Emma's 8th birthday today and so we were awoken at 7am with her DS alarm so she could open all her cards and some little presents we were able to bring in the case with us.
Today's itinerary was Emma's choice and so we went to a Water Park very close to the mexican border. We were there bright and early and managed to catch a spot in the shade. It did not compare with Wild Wadi (Dubai) or Wet n'Wild (Orlando) but did the job and there were some rides, a lazy river and a big wave pool which we could all enjoy. Also was a great children's area with loads of water games and slides which Emma really loved. The highlight of her day was going on the Coronado Express which was about 200 ft up in the air and we all got into a massive rubber ring together and were whisked down a slide - bumping us from side to side. I did manage to do some screams for effect but Emma said she was still quite scared but again this was the best part of her day. The views from the top of the tower were of course great - but this far south it is mostly dry land with houses scattered around.
Around 3.30pm we started to flag and feel at little red in places (despite factor 50 again) so we decided to take a trip south to an outlet mall which is right on the mexican border. As you got closer to the border the queue for people in cars going over was massive - there must have been 2000 or more vehicles waiting and that was all we could see. In the distance you can see the mexican flag in Tijuana and the built up city. We weren't going to do a trip over there but it was good to see what it would be like. We did a quick trip to the mall which was not very good - Emma had the best time in the Hello Kitty shop.
On the way home we stopped for a birthday dinner at our favourite TGI Fridays which was great - but Emma being 8 now didn't want anyone to sing Happy Birthday to her in a crowded restaurant so we made it a bit low key.
Emma says: my best presents were my converse sneakers and my hello kitty headphones. My favourite bit of the day was going on the rides at the water park. I like being 8 now as I can officially watch Zoe 101 - but when I got home it wasn't on Nickolodean. Never mind there is always tomorrow.
