We travelled this morning from Mariposa through to San Francisco.

Mariposa is a very small town with nothing much there so it was only a stop off for us and gateway back to the coast.  Our drive took us through central california and this is where most of the fruit is grown by th looks of it.  Corn, cranberries, peaches, apricots - that's what I could recognise anyway.  The railway also goes through this region and we again passed trains with 3 engines which were at least a mile long transporting all sorts of stuff.

Our drive took us about 3 hours and so we were able to do a shopping  & lunch stop off at Dublin City just before San Fransisco.  We entered the city via the Bay Bridge, part of which collapsed in the 1989 earthquake.  Its OK now though - thank goodness and good old sat nav got us to the hotel fairly straight forwardly.  Hotel very nice and over 30 floors - has a swimming pool on floor 6 which Emma had a quick dip in before we went out to dinner.  It is nicely heated so not too much of a shock.

The weather is noticeably chilly here and it is well known for it's fog and mist which rolls into the city as it did this evening.  Brrrrrr.

We were fed up with burgers, fries etc. so decided to walk into Japantown (yes I know sounds a bit weird!) to see what fayre they had to offer.  There is a large population of Japanese/American in SF.  We ate at Mifune and had noodles and tempura which were lovely.  Emma (whom we expected to just eat some rice) loved it and enjoyed it all including noodles in broth and deep fried chicken skewers.  It was such a lovely change from what we have been eating.  We had a quick look round their shopping centre and then a nice brisk walk up and down some hills back to the hotel.

Hadn't realised just how hilly the city is so we will have to take advantage of those cable cars and trams tomorrow.
