Day 21 - Olbia, Sardinia:
It was dark, so I didn't see much getting
off the boat. 2mi to the B&B, so I started walking that way. I could
tell even though it was dark that the water was a nice bright blue
color. I found the B&B and walked a block to get some food and
coffee. Got a creme donut and cappuccino. I'm liking the prices here.
E2.50 instead of E3 just for the coffee. Tried to get some cash out of
the ATM and it didn't work. I tried calling Suntrust after finding a
phone card and they weren't open until 6AM (noon here). Went back to the
B&B and took a nap. Went back and called again and there was no
reason I shouldn't have been able to get money. Thought maybe I tried to
take out too much, so tried with less and it worked. Guess you can't
take out E500. Paid for the room and asked him what I should do. He said
take the #1 bus to the #4 bus, so I did. Only cost E1.50. Had to wait
an hour for the #4 bus, so, since I was starving, stopped and got a
pizza. It had ham, mushrooms, olives and something else. I'm guessing it
was a fish since it tasted pretty fishy. Can't say I enjoyed that part
very much, but the rest was good. I also had a few glasses of wine. Left
the pizzaria just in time to catch the bus. Took the bus around until
it got back to the same spot. Sardinia
looks really nice. I guess the big thing is the beaches. The water is
beautiful, the mountains are a nice backdrop and the architecture is
nice. I saw a couple resorts along the way that I bet would be great to
stay at. I wish I had time to see the islands 20mi north. I think that's
what the guy at the hostel in Munich was telling me about. If I had a
car, I could do it, but seeing my experience with renting a car, I think
I'll pass. I walked around a lot, kinda disappointed since I really
needed a car. Small towns and pretty spread out over the island. I went
back to the B&B and laid there for awhile, not really sure what to
do. Heard a couple come in and then heard them say they were going on
the same ferry to Barcelona. First time I had heard any English (which I
liked, but still wish I had a car to explore). Opened the door and
talked to them. The girl, Jana, was from Canada and just dropped everything to venture all over the world. She had been traveling since like April. The guy, Larsen, was from Belgium and had met her in Rome.
They had rented a car for a week and went all around the entire island.
Yes, that is yet another trip planned for my future. I will need a
companion for that one, though. I like driving alone, but not for a
week. I then watched some BBC World and went to bed.

Day 22 - Olbia, Sardinia:
Woke
up and packed up. Went to the living room for some breakfast and had
some bread with honey and nutella (they love that stuff in Europe,
it's everywhere) and some corn flakes. Love the milk here, too. I
walked around some more, just killing time. I noticed a few rally cars
driving around, so I tried to see where the rally was. Unfortunately, I
was unsuccessful. It was getting late, so I walked toward the train
station in search of food. It was pretty commercial around the station,
so the good food was slim. I found a place that was a little expensive,
but pretty good. Had procuitto and melon again, a Sardinian pasta with
sausage (kinda like shells), fried calamari and an espresso. I paid and
went to the station. I got on the train and a few minutes later, the two
from the B&B came on.
